In changing out my stock Magpul MOE  handguard to a  DPMS  free float rail. Does it take a special tool to remove the barrel nut on a DPMS  LR308.Is this something I should let gunsmith do or tackle it myself.                               Thanks

It will take a barrel nut wrench, you can do everything if you purchase the right tools. Might be cheaper if you let a gunsmith do it, especially if you are only wanting to only do it once.

Yourself. Do not go cheap on your armorers wrench. And either user your own, or borrow the use of a buddies bench vice.

I highly recommend a Upper Receiver Vise Block Clamp. They make life soo much easier.

YOu'll be glad you have this stuff if you plan any future tinkering.

Thanks for the info, you are right probably cheaper to let gunsmith do it. I would have to buy vise, armorers tool and receiver block. Gunsmith said he would do it for $40.00 to $50.00.           Thanks

I was told that AR15 and  BR308 took the same barrel nut wrench. Does anyone know if this is correct or not.

from looking again, it may depend on the wrench and barrel nut

I did the same with mine and it does take a standard armorers wrench. As long is it the factory barrel nut.
