[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Installing a PRI Free Float Forearm

I am thinking of building up a SPR upper and I am curious how difficult it is to install the PRI FF forearm. Is it any different than installing a Larue or DD Lite rail? Any special tools needed? Trying to get some ideas.

Don't have one, but soon will.

You do need a PRI wrench to install the hand guard. Listed on the PRI website. I have heard you could use a telestock wrench to do the install, but I haven't confirmed. Maybe someone else will chime in.

It's not hard at all.

I used a regular barrel wrench for the barrel nut, and a strap wrench for securing the outer nut that holds the tube.

As per Derek, standard (USGI style in my case) barrel wrench. It looks like he used the same strap wrench I did. It worked but mine concluded its service life in the process:

I think mine did that too

Last time I removed it, I put a brass punch in the notch and gently tapped it to unscrew it.

I'm too cheap and lazy to buy the proper tool from PRI.

At any rate......I LOVE the PRI handsguard.

It's replaced JP as my favorite.

Has anyone tried the PRI forearm rail on top of the tube? It looks like it would be a good system for mounting a scope.

So far in just a couple of outings the front sight I've got mounted on the PRI tube's top rail has held zero:
