In anticipation of the upcoming demise of the AWB, how complicated is the installation of a basic A2 flash hider?  What specific tools would one need?  I have two naked barreled ARs and if the ban sunsets, I'd like to install the A2 FH on them.  I would have done a search but...

If your barrels aren't already threaded, it's a machine shop type project to properly cut the threads, and even if you have that skill and tooling, the threding dies I've seen for the standard M16 FHs ain't cheap.

I suspect that there will be at least a few 'smiths offering the service, around September 1st

Spoke with CMMG, they charge $35 to turn the barrel, thread and refinish + somewhere under $10 for a standard A2 & washer.

about installing flashhider, I believe there are 2 ways, with is with old fashioned peel washer, which you peel layers off until you can index the A2 FH with the solid part at the bottom.  The other kind is called a crush washer and you essentially turn and crush the peel washer until you turn the A2 birdcage with solid part at the bottom.

Is this understanding correct?  Also, how is the crush washer positioned?  As the crush washer has the outer rim slanted one direction, and inner rim slanted the other direction, which one should face the FH, and which should face the barrel?

Just a few days ago someone posted a photo of a at home barrel threading set up. I couldn't  find it again.
