| For SHTF, I have a Stag AR15 2L 5.56mm with Aimpoint Reddot / Aimpoint 3x Magnifier and A.R.M.S. 40L / A2 "F" Front BUIS, sighted in at 50 yds using 55gr M193 or 62gr M855. For hog/deer-hunting, I recently purchased a Stag AR15 7HL 6.8mm with same A.R.M.S. 40L but with a Sampson (gas block) Flip Front sight, sighted in at 50yds using Nosler 110gr Accubond. Is it practical to think I can swap to Aimpoint optics to the AR15-7HL, assuming sight picture is the same or should I not be so cheap and buy a set of optics for the AR15-7HL? I kinda like the idea the weaponry will be similar, adding familiarity to handling, functionality, etc. |

Are you planning on rezeroing the Aimpoint every time it switches rifles? this. one optic zero'd on one weapon can be inches or even feet off when mounted to another rifle. ontop of that, 5.56mm and 6.8spc are going to have 2 very different trajectories. short answer, don't do it. if you want to buy another aimpoint for the 6.8 upper though, you CAN swap the magnifier back and forth it wont affect anything. |
| Both systems are zeroed for 50yds, and if I'm wrong, although ballistically different, both will impact again at approximately 200yds. Of course, that theory will have to be tested. My alternative is to buy just another Aimpoint and only swap the 3x Magnifier. I need to measure the height diff. from the rails or just move the Aimpoint and see where it lines up on the 6.8mm. It was kinda a wild idea. |
