Taken from Troy's FAQ: [2-1-1] Early Designs ------- The original AR-15 magazines were made by ArmaLite, the company responsible for the design of the AR-10 and AR-15 rifles, among others. They were aluminum, 20-round magazines and had waffle-pattern ridges, though later examples had only the vertical ridges. These mags are very rare, and are generally collectors' items. Floorplates were stamped: ArmaLite(r) AR-15 Patents Pending CAL. 223 COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO.INC. HARTFORD, CONN.U.S.A. |

Quoted: I received this mag and am curious what it is, and its value. It has both Armalite AND Colt on the baseplate...Anybody familiar with this item? I have seen lots of USGI 20's but never one of these... http://photos.ar15.com/ImageGallery/IG_LoadImage.asp?iImageUnq=1389 The baseplate says: ArmaLite AR-15 (Patents Pending) CAL. 223 COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO.INC. HARTFORD, CONN.U.S.A. I assume its pretty old, but seems to be in good condition. Anyone care to venture a guess what its worth? Email me...I'll pay ya $26.99 and not a penny more. |
| Well, I took the mag apart to clean it- guess what? Its NOT aluminum. The MAG FAQ says they were ALUMINUM!! This one is ferrous (will attract a magnet- both body and baseplate. So maybe it rare beyond the Aluminum model... TROY, is this a new addition to your FAQ? |
