So far the gun is 100% with CCI standard and Gemtech.
I DID go back to the full power hammer and left the reduced power disconnect....the 85% hammer just wouldn't ignite anything today and felt VERY weak (that is another mystery for another post--the firing pin seemed to work fine...the hammer seemed much weaker today).

QUESTION:  Eley target/sport still won't reset the trigger BUT WHAT IS ODD is that I noticed EVERY ROUND doesn't manually extract (the round gets pushed up into the chamber BUT the extractor doesn't have a hold of it).   ANY IDEAS?

My theories:
1). The weak-sauce ammo isn't pushing the bolt back enough to have enough force to push the extractor claw OVER the ammo or reset the trigger.
2). The BCG is moving slightly, messing with things--if I pull the charging handle all the way back, I can then pull it another 1.5-3mm (as I think it's pushing the taxcom buffer plug--I see it all move back just about 1.5-3 or 4mm).

Ideas?

ALL good stuff was 100%!!   So I'm happy.  Just curious.

Hmmmmmmm what kind of gun?

Taccom upper (old style) and BCG.
Lakeside recoil spring (extra power) and weaker disconnect; CMMG CH.

It's running like a top with CCI standard and gemtech, but I worry one weak load might do what the Eley does EVERY TIME--feed into the chamber BUT not get the extractor claw on it!!  Pulling the CH might allow it to fall out, but it's stuck in the chamber but NOT being held by the extractor.

Anyone ever seen this--is it just weak ammo causing the extractor to not be able to push OVER the rim?
Other ideas?
I'll figure out how to remove the firing pin and extractor tomorrow, and clean them out.

Anyone seen a .22LR AR feed but not get the extractor behind the rim?
Does that mean is isn't closing fully into battery?

Yes and no, Joe. It depends on if we are saying some times or all the time.
Some chambers are cut tight on purpose and can become fouled enough to prevent the next round from going home, then anything can happen. There are lots of ways it can happen and they are not unique to AR rimfire.

It's all the time with weaker ammo...I just can't figure out how it's closing on the rimfire round WITHOUT getting the extractor over it....BUT maybe it isn't closing all the way--that seems like the only possibility--YET since I'm using the Lakeside extra-power springs, that seems unlikely.

ETA:  I took out the extractor and firing pin (the FP had 3 shims on it, but based on some research, I took 2 out--probably should have taken all three out).  Both extractor and FP seem to be the upgraded TACCOM.  FP channel was a bit dirty.

Thanks.

If you can post some pics.  Also pull the extractor, and post some photos of it.  IIRC you bought this gun used right?

I traded for it "used"...
The extractor looked good (looked like the new one I think).
If I take it apart again (to remove that one shim), I'll get some pics.

I just had never seen a gun short-stroke and not get the extractor claw around the rim.  Again, it doesn't so this with ANY ammo except some weak Eley.

measure the rim of the eley stuff, maybe it is just a bit larger than domestic(diameter and thickness). the other possibility is the extractor spring is binding on something at full travel plus the eley rim is a bit bigger.

Well.....you could always contact TACCOM and see what they would be willing to do for ya

Don't matter if you bought it used......if it's a TACCOM product....we'll get ya up and running.

Yeah, it's not a problem with anything TACCOM--everything else fires fine.  Heck, without their innovation and enhancement-kit, a lot of conversions wouldn't be running as good as they do now.

I think it's just weak ammo.  BUT, being the novice-gunsmith that I am, I try to figure out WHY something's happening--and usually, if something is happening to someone, it's happened to others and someone has written about it, explaining the problem.
More testing later today...

I think Tim is trying to give you a hint.  Call Tim and run through the basics and see what he says.

ETA:  HAHAHAHA!!!!   I can't believe I didn't even notice that it was TIM who wrote that, even after MAHA pointed it out!!!   I read it wrong--thinking someone wanted me to bug Tim about it even though I don't want to impose on him (which is why I defended him and mentioned the innovative stuff he's done); then when Maha wrote what he did, I was like, "why do these guys want me to bug Tim so much!?"...ugh.  I'm an idiot.  (in my defense, I've been working until 5am for the last 4 or 5 days and THEN keeping my twin 4-yr old girls during the day while my wife works...I generally take a break and work on the gun around 2-3am, then I sneak in a test session at like 6 or 7pm while everyone is finishing up dinner)

Tim, EMAIL sent.

---------------
I think I am going to see if he'll take a look at it....seems like too many different things to diagnose via description, but I'll try.

It looks to me like the Eley's were just getting stuck in the chamber--but now I also noticed a divot where the case-rim got hit and made a dent in the chamber-hole....like staking, it was stuck in there--though not much.  Pulled out with my thumb-nail.
CCI are still perfect, but I'm wondering if that divot might reduce how supported the rounds are or if something is off.

I hate to bug Tim, but I'll email him and see if he has time to diagnose it and replace whatever's necessary at my expense.  Sending ammo would make it an expensive venture, but I have a feeling something is off or loose or whatever--I just don't know where.  And if I KNEW it would never occur with gemtech and CCI, I wouldn't mind..,,but now, in the back of my mind, I wonder.  My only rule is that all guns are 100% reliable.

Thanks Tim (and Maha for trying to bring it to my attention that TIM himself was offering help).
I'll get to sleep starting Monday night, so by the end of the week my reading comprehension skills should be back to normal.

I know the feeling.  I hate to bug people who I know have better things to do then talk to me about some simple issue.  But it is one of the reasons I bought TACCOM, Support.  I had an issue pop up last night and I have had time to look into it yet but I am sure i will be email Tim as well this week.

Sorry MaHa......you've used up your free support, you need to attach a $10 bill to each email to me from now on.

Well.....maybe we'll let the next one slide
