Tim @ http://www.tacticalsupplies.us/LASERindex.htm has drop in  ir laser modules
to fit LDI Mr2 lasers. The one I saw looks prettygood. It is  5w 808nm,works well
with nvps-14s.paul29

Surely you don't mean five watt.  Five milliwatt, right?

thanks for the good word.....

they are 5 mw

they can be had in 5-30 mw range

How much was the one you looked at?

How hard would it be to add one of these to an existing laser setup?  Wire in the new module in place of the old one?  I suppose a diode module of similar size and power rating would be necessary.

I've got one of Tims Beamshot replacement modules.  Works great!

I've been waiting for the mr2 module, even bought an extra mr2 unit in anticipation!  The conversion on the mr2 shouldn't take more than 5 minutes, if you're slow and meticulous...just loosen the elevation and windage screws, back out the spring-plunger screw, and the module should drop out of the battery housing.

BTW, more powerful doesn't equate to better with infrared lasers...the module I got from Tim did not cause blooming on my 14's, just a nice tight, visible spot through night-vision.

the modules for the MR2's are good to go now, and the 5mw units work great, and are plenty powerful enough for nv gear

I can make any module, any size, any power, or NM range

i would need the dimensions ect and the power

the picture of the ldi replacements i make is on my site, just click the lasers/modules bar on the left of the main page

it can be done on just about any laser, some are much more complicated than others

the aiming of the weapons mounted lasers is accomplished usually by moving the mdule inside of the laser unit, if the modules are similar in size it can work, however, some laser units are not going to work unless the fitment of the module is very close in size and shape to the original, for the LDI units to properly adjust, and hold zero, they need to be accurately shaped modules

Is 5mW tha maximum eye-safe power?
4/4/2006 6:22:39 AM EDT
[#9]
no laser is eye safe.....

any laser, even 5 MW will do serious eye damage if you look directly into it, even the cheap china lasers, IR is even more dangerous beacuse you could be pointing it accidentally at someones eyes, you would not know it if you were not using nv gear.

also, since the light in an ir laser is not visible the eye will not react to it and close, the light will enter the eye and do damage

so none are "really" eye safe

What would you recommend for an OTAL, and how much would it cost?

How is the OTAL opened up?  Do you have to remove the four sealed screws in the back or is the front lens removable?

I have the MR2 I'd like to convert but it doesn't have an off switch.

Do you have to be Military or L.E to purchase  Ir laser modules, or are there any out there that can be purchased by civilians??

thanks

four sealed screws, front lens unscrews, it is wired into a circuit board, another sealed screw has also to be removed, these are the most difficult of conversions

I am working on my own brand of laser right now, it will be US made, easily convertible, and mounts rock solid, it will be about 90.00 in price

IR modules for my unit will be 100 dollars

the output of the modules will be 5 MW and as high as 50 mw actual output

I will have prototypes for abusing late this coming week

I will be making 2 single beam laser models
one laser head which fits the pentagonlight, and surefire flashlights (this one is really cool)
one IR illuminator (long Range) for the pentagonlights, and surefires

one dual laser (IR and Visible) unit for mounting on the picatinney rail

these will all be very robust in build

Excellent, looking forward to your new models!

Looks like I'll put off buying IR modules for my MR-2 to see what your customs are like.
