Ok guys I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out a good set-up. This rifle will be for 3 gun and SHTF might see a yote hunt every now and again, everyone is telling me to just go with an Eotech but what can I say  I like to be different and I know some folks that are pretty dan salty with irons. The rifle in question is a QD flattop and I'll have a 17" barrel with rifle length gas system, I don't have to be the most cool kid on the block with ubber prices sights but I want something that if the rifle hits the deck I should still be able to hit a dang target The eyes are still pretty good and the longest shot I have seen has been 300 yards on a 10" plate but 95% are within 30 yards.

Any suggestions? I'd prefer to go with solid sights and not the flip-up style but also I'd rather not have a carry handle, picky little shit ain't I. If you have any suggestions please pass them along. Later,

Kirk

Good choices.

I run a Daniel Defense 1.5 on one gun, and a Troy fixed on another.  I like the troy a little better, but for ruggedness, the Daniel Defense unit looks, to my untrained eye, like it would take a bit more abuse than the Troy.

Personally I would go with a larue BUIS.

Why because Larues name is on it

I'd rather not go with the BUIS type but rather something once I torque it don't it's not going anywhere! actually looking at an A2 type front sight gas block and just change out the sight pin but the rear sight I'm thinking on the A2 style also but who makes one that I can attach to my flat top that is not a carry handle also? if this were a bolt gun I'd have not a question but there are so many different sights for the AR my brain cell is hurting from all the looking around LOL Later,

Check out the RRA stand alone rear sight RRA

I use one in tandem with an Aimpoint M4s at 1/3 co-witness and of course a standard FSB. I believe that this is a perfect setup for a defensive/utility rifle out to at least 300 yards. Fixed irons co-witnessed through an Aimpoint or Eotech makes up for any deficiencies with an illuminated reticle. Your irons will always be immediately ready for optic washout or failure. Solid, simple.

Ew. Leapers. Go with a used lmt rear on the ee

LMT is bulky, a little heavy, and has all the typical user-friendliness of an A2 sight. Most of my ARs have Troy flips, but the irons-only midlength wears the LMT. Not bashing the sight, just commenting that it's not as low profile as a Daniel Defense or Larue.

that and I like being able to quickly remove as much as possible on a weapon, especially when I know it will immeadiately return to zero upon re installation!

Well I got the LMT today and went to put it on and I can't get the damn thing to sit square it's like some part of it is not fitting right but I don't see anyplace on the rail where it's rubbing or hitting. What a day it has been, nothing seems to have gone right today! time for a frosty or three. Later,

What part isn't "fitting square"?  There is a buit in cant, from spring tension, that is normal on A2 style sights.  The "square" part above the elevation adjustment is what will appear to be off-center.  If the whole sight is off then your upper is probably out of spec....

Yea the sight part is what is what I would say isn't square. I always run optics so irons are new to me so sorry if I sound stupid.
the base sits what looks to be flat so I might just be to damn picky.

jperry69 thanks for the vote of confidence there buddy lol Later,

so happy with my chopped carry handle and the alterations suggested by Molon in his "RIBZ" post!!!  I enjoy shooting known ranges out to 600 yards now more than with optics.

get it with the vfz instead of the lever and it knocks 25 bucks off the price!

jperry I figured as much but I'm a smart ass at heart so I just had too

I do have to admit I do like the little oil can symbol on the lever area! I'm going to give this sight a try first then if I don't like it I'll see if I can find it a new home. I still have about another month on my barrel to show up grrrr but oh well it's been to damn hot to do anything outside anyway. Now to figure out a front sight pin size. Later,
