I have an LR308B with the carbine length free float hand guard. I would like to put a low profile gas block and rifle length free float hand guard on it. I am fairly handy with tools and dont mind buying hand tools that I need. Is this something that the slightly above average joe can do or does a machine shop need to remove the gas block?
Any advice is appreciated. I am fairly new to the AR world but love it so far. Ryan |

I havent decided on the fore arm yet. I am open to suggestions. And money is an object. I dont mind saving up, but I dont see how a $400 one is better than a $200 one. Unless you can convince me? I was looking at a YHM with the rails only on the front part.
Does the gas block just slide off when you remove the pin? Ryan |

once you get the pin out you can tap it out with a rubber mallet, the gas tube will come out with it.
whatever FFtube you decide on make sure that it is made for the larger platform. the majority of them are not interchangeable between the ar-15 and LR-308 platform. |
| I put the AR15 version of this on one of my AR15s http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=376050 and with this code 10611110 you get $10 off. |

These are for drop in to replace existing handguards. It looks like he wants to change to a free float that will cover the gas block. These will not work for that. Bones |

| Yhm does not make a .308 compatable barrel nut. One of the best looking rifle length forearms for the .308 in my opinion is the V-tac, a little slimmer than standard. I however just put a dpms carbon fiber rifle length gaurd on my .308 sportical to lose weight. It is very easy to do, in fact I didn't even buy the reciever blocks. I made one wood block with a channel to go on the top of the reciever. Then I made block with two cut outs for the reciever lugs to go on the bottom. |

If I'm reading this correctly this is what you want, except in 308. http://i636.photobucket.com/albums/uu87/CElephus/DSC00139.jpg It's a YHM rifle length free flaot tube with a low profile gas block. 16 in barrel and a 12.5 in FF tube. It's doable. I built this one from parts. Swapping out a FF tube is pretty easy. Check the stickies in the Build it Yourself board. That is exactly the look I am looking for. Thanks. The V-Tac is one of the finalists. Also the DPMS as it has the high rail to match up with the rail on top of the reciever. Ryan |
