A laser you can see with only night vision?  The Aimpoint website says it's passive.  Fill me in please.

Passive would mean no zoomies coming out.   Lasers fall into the 'zoomie' category.

Here is what I found on it

The Aimpoint LPI, IR Laser Aiming Device is an active aiming device or target designator for military and Law Enforcement applications in darkness or poor light conditions. It is a development based on long experience in engineering and manufacturing of lasers ranging from pistol to military infantry rifle applications. The Aimpoint LPI is a complement to the passive aiming systems from Aimpoint. It is designed to fit directly on an Aimpoint red dot sight, which means that no special rail system is required. This is a truly unique tool, lightweight, small and sturdy. It enhances the red dot sight capability and meets the increasing demands on target lasers. The combination provides a choice to select the best sight to suit all conditions. This is the smallest military IR laser aiming device with slimed design and it meets all military demands.
The desired wavelength insert can be selected from a range of basic laser sources. The insert can be adjusted in X and Y axis independently.

Laser attachable to: Aimpoint CompM2/ML2, Aimpoint CompM/ML.

That tells me that it only works with night vision

ANY laser will be an active targeting tool. With active targeting my judgment is that you aim designate and fire in less time than it took to read this. With more and more night vision getting out there you never know if your opponents have it to and if they do, and see the emission of the laser they know RIGHT where you are.

The specs on the website say .4 mw to .04 mw I will contact Amipoint and find out if that is correct as .04 MW is not much out put at all. Then again, it is running off of an Aimpoint battery so it would not surprise me. Oh well it's all-academic anyway I'll bet my bottom dollar that they won't sell it to the public.
