So Im working on the new upper and Im going through some parts laying around and I remember that I have a Larue M107 .50 BMG scope mount and Im thinking about using it to hang my 5.5 x 22 x 56 Nightforce on the rig.

The only problem is that the mounting base goes across both the uppers rail and the front rail. Now being that its a Daniel Defense continuous rail, is that a problem? Isnt that what the continuous rail is for?

I know, an SPR mount would be more betterer but I already have this one.

Any problems anyone can think of mounting a scope across the two pieces?

Man that thing is pretty

That is exactly what those continuos rails are for. Looks beautiful. Can't wait to see it all together.

Honestly, I think that is okay.  That rail is pretty secure.  I would test fire it and see how your groups are.  That is the only definate answer.
Just my 2 cents

VERY nice looking piece there. I agree with ^, fire it and see what the groups look like.

IIRC Mark LaRue has specifically advised against this. The Free Float rail can flex and cause point of aim/point of impact issues.

it's not really a continuous rail, it just looks that way.  Those rails are VERY secure, but there is a possibility of flexing.

Thanks guys.

I guess the best thing to do is just sell the mount and buy an SPR mount instead.

Or I could just mount it and give it a try......cant hurt anything trying it out right?

The only thing I see wrong with it is that it's not on one of my rifles. Would not be my first choice to bridge the two rails like that.

The Daniel Defense rail is not a continuous top rail.  It gives the LOOK of a continuous top rail.  While it is VERY secure, bridging that gap is not the way to mount an optic.  Get the right mount.

If I remember correctly......Mark even had a thread in the optics forum saying not to do this.

Yes, you are going to need a gas tube.

As long as it is lined up. I thought that was the purpose of those rails.

I have a rail that bridges the receiver and the HG on my .22LR. The optic is Chinese and I have over 1,000 rounds down range with no issues.

Other than the obvious (.22LR and rail as opposed to direct mount), how is this different from the OP's set-up?
