I bought this from Kiser Munitions and expected to see it marked Mk 262 Mod 1 like the other pictures.

Yes, the MK 262 MOD 1 is loaded to 5.56 specs and is so marked. If it was the .223 loading it would say .223

Yep, I would not hesitate to go to war or protect my home with this ammo.

It is NOT second tier in the way that XM193PD is second tier of XM193.  Read the top of the box...  BH does NOT sell malformed ammo.  The "white box" is a cosmetic second.  That is to say, if the rounds are not pretty they pull it from the batch.

There is a visual component to the MIL inspection of ammo.  If a cartridge is visually not up to par, it is enough to reject the whole batch.

So...BH discards all malformed ammo and then reviews EVERY CARTRIDGE BY HUMAM HAND.  If a cartridge is found to have a small smudge or dent it is boxes as a "cosmetic second."

BH does NOT sell the first run stuff to civilians.  PERIOD.  I know because I have begged...  All of the first run stuff you see for sale has been stolen from the military.

I am sorry for the confusion.  I take for granted that folks understand the Mk262 stuff when they call to acquire it...  I will be clearer in all future conversations and I will add this info to the FAQ on my site.

Please let me know if you have other questions.
Regards,
Joseph

I've been on a waiting list for over four months for this and it finally came. I am very happy with it and dealing with Joseph has been a pleasure.

Thats a very bold statement.  How sure are you on this?

100% positive.
BH will not sell it to civies.
The contract maintainer will not sell it to civies(or LEO for that matter!).

If you (not you but any person in possession of the product) got it, you were given it in execution of a GOV/MIL responsibility.  That responsibility does not include selling it...

I think that Fortier got some (and maybe other writers).  But, that is a completely different responsibility set and does not bear on this discussion.

You should ship it all to me and I'll test it.

Rest assured you got the good stuff.

Kiser,

Do you expect to get any of the WHITE box stuff ever again?

On a side note I wonder if those "people" that have sold the FIRST run stuff also bitch about paying taxes

Since the ammo shortage, has the .mil eased the restrictions on sending them cosmetically inferior ammo ?

Black Hills is not the only maker of MK 262.

This would be the first I've heard of this. Who else, and with what brass?

A while back ATK did a run of 77 gr MK 262 Mod 0 in LC cases.  I don't think it was sold commercially.

I got some recently in a white box and I think I either got a gun show screwing or mod 0.

the closer I look at the loaded carteidge I do not see any cannelure. Should I be able to see it as I can on other rounds like 193 or 855? I didn't think BH ever released the mod 0 after the development phases.

Thanks

The cannelure is slightly visible on the Mk262Mod1 that I have in my stash...  But, that is not comprehensive.  That is to say, I also have some 75 that has NO cannelure visible (but it does have a cannelure).

I know it is tough to do because it is expensive...however, take one of your rounds and pull it apart to verify.  That is the only way to be sure.

Two questions:
1. Can you see sealant on the primer?
2. What is the headstamp?

The cannelure on the BH 5.56mm seconds bullet is very light as compared to other factory ammo. In the pic below you have AA40 Frangible at top, M856 Tracer, and a pulled BH 5.56mm seconds bullet. Also, none of the BH 5.56mm 77gr. MATCH loadings I have seen so far have a cannelure. It has been my experience that putting a cannelure on a MATCH grade bullet has a negative effect on accuracy. That may be the reason why BH used such a light cannelure on this MK262 type and none on their 5.56mm MATCH ammo.
