Occasionally my rifle wont chamber a round when I do the following steps on my rifle... is this normal?

No magazine in the gun, I pull back the charging handle to cock the trigger.  I then insert the magazine.  I then pull back the charging handle again to load a round, but sometimes it wont load a round.

It seems like it only does this when I do it this way.  BTW the magazine was jammed hard into the magwell.  I promise it was in all the way.

Anyone else experience this?

Not unheard of - I get this sometimes when I manually release the bolt with the cocking handle, I think I may ride it a bit without realizing it. So I've gotten into the habit of releasing the bolt with the bolt release of the off-side hand, ensuring full spring pressure to close the bolt.

This happens to my son now and then... he rides the charging handle without knowing it... I know this for a fact because I've seen him do it another thing to check is your mag's... burr's on the feed lips WILL cause the problem.

How many mags? Are you only having problems with one. or all of them?

Mark your mags with tape if they dont feed right. if you are still getting a jam something else may be off.

Is it a new gun? lube it up a little more, maybe the carrier is sliding a little rough. you might have deformed the magazine by putting it in "hard"

not sure why you are cocking the trigger then putting a magazine in.

put your loaded magazine in point in a safe direction, pull the charging handle back and let go......
