There are a bunch of little worn out specs on the face of my bolt after about 1000 rounds.  None of them are visibly nicks on the firing pin hole.

Nope, sorry.

The finish on the face of the bolt looks very worn compared to the rest of the bolt.  It is not black, it's kind of a dull brown in places with a bunch of little shiny specs peppered on it.  I use British SS-109 62gr.

Not the best angle, but from what you can see, does your bolt look like this?

And on the Maintenance and Cleaning Forum at that. What the hell....we'll just call it a "before" pic. Squido......if your bolt face looks like that, it is pefectly normal, and just needs cleaning.

Once you get the brass rub marks and spots out (Hoppe's #9 and a lot of q-tips and soaking), I think you will find most of the bluing intact.  If not, then you have shot quite a bit and have normal wear.

There are other products that contain ammonia that will remove the brass faster, but these are more likely to induce rust.  Hoppe's is safe in that regard.

Dave.
