New BCG, not going to say who from as I hope to fix the issue with them and don't want to throw anybody under a bus prematurely but I'm hoping I'm wrong.  Is this rust?

looks like discoloration from the oil they store these in. have you tried a degreaser on it?

Man I hope so...

I soaked it down with break free and tried cleaning it and what you see is after which.  So I should use a degreaser of sort?

Thanks

It's just dried on lube residue. Quit cleaning it, shoot it and don't worry!

Seeing the same discoloration on chrome (chrome does not rust) inside the bolt carrier lends me to say with a high degree of certainty that is not rust but just baked on lube.  Relube and keep going none issue.

What lubricant are you using could be cooking it off with a cheap lube.  I use Mobil 1 syn and never have this issue just wipe my bolts down and relube when done.

not rust, looks like discoloration as stated above.  I've see this before on other BCGs through the years (high end to low end bcgs).  It's certainly not common but common enough.  You have to remember, the lining is most likely not uniform and it will have enough imperfections in said lining that packing oil can sit and color.  This happens to chrome faucets too but due to cleaning agents.

I'd be more concerned about the economy in Indonesia then that. Go shoot it, it'll go away.

lube residue.....

If that really bothers you spray it down with a Carb cleaner. Not the Eco-Green stuff the real stuff. Then lube the hell out of it and shoot it.
You'd shit if you ever had to remove some cosmoline, from some gun parts. That's just the companies preventive lube for storing parts.

Most AR parts seem to be coated in a brown heavy preservative oil, which solidifies over time to just the kind of discoloration you see there.

The brown streaks going right from the parkerizing and continuing over the chrome should be a good indication that it's not rust

Try some denatured alcohol or just some hot water and dish soap and it will probably come right off.

Not rust...lube residue.  Kosmoline will do this.

Not rust.  Some WD-40 should  take that preservative right off.

Hey, not sure if it's been mentioned before but it's probably not rust, it's probably lube, and you should just probably go shoot it and not worry about it... Lol!

Thanks all that replied.

I wasn't worried about the look but rather just concerned if I had received a rusty BCG.

Obviously from the replies I was wrong.  Thanks for easing my mind and I will put the BCG to good use.
