| AR15's are never a rifle I've worried about rust on. Most of the gun is aluminum and polymer. What isn't is chrome lined or a moving part that needs a fair amount of lubrication. Also, I've never heard of corrosive 5.56. Also, even if you had a little surface rust, it's never going to cause any major, long term problems. |

It came off easy so I'm hoping it was copper. Just want an opinion. Oh, NO! I see rust! Better send that rusted piece of trash to me for proper disposal! Really now, I do see what you are talking about on the castle nut. It might be a little rust, where the finish was marred as the nut was tightened down. Nothing to be terribly concerned about though.... Keep a little lubricant on the cleaned surface, and it probably won't get any worse. Might not even come back at all. The copper colored piece at the back of the barrel is probably a small piece of brass that was scrapped away from the brass case as a round was chambered. Again, I wouldn't sweat that at all! You can STILL send it to me for proper disposal though......

Rust, I'm not so sure of by the pics bro. I will say if rust is a concern of yours I would suggest maybe trying a different CLP and look at your PMCS program. I have used more than an few CLP's over the years and I am currently using FrogLube CLP (which I will state I have no connections to the company other than I use some of their kit). Regardless of what YOU choose YOU should maintain a cleaning regime, IMHO, to prevent any rust, fowling and maintenance related issues. I will say that since I have been using FrogLube CLP I haven't. had any rust problems even being in the climate I am in South Carolina. I hope this helps . Edited to add content.

| My opinion, I don't think it's rust. The castle nut looks like you said, dried oil or grease. The chamber looked like copper or brass. I've seen places like that before on my guns that came right off when cleaning. Especially on new guns with preservative oil. I think you're good to go! |
