One of the few things that irk me about the AR platform is the sound of the spring in the buffer tube.
Yeah, yeah... First-world problems.
Anyone familiar with the JP Enterprises Silent Spring System? Good? Bad? Ugly? Thanks. Link |

I run one in my sbr. I use it with a 8.5" 300blk upper and 10.5" 5.56 upper. Action is silky smooth and no "sproiiing" noise. It is high, IMHO it needs to be under $100.
Upgrade it if there is nothing else you wish to upgrade first, like the trigger, sights, charging handles and things like that. |

The good: Works and is quiet.
The bad: Very expensive. If the sound is your main complaint get the Tubbs flat wire buffer spring for $25 from Brownells It will take most of the noise away and will never need replacement in your lifetime since its chrome silicon. Watch this video to become a buffer spring expert and see why the flat wire is better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fMVZbrnvu8#t=27 |

Pricey, but like you I was sick of hearing the stock spring sproing sound. 8.2" 300BLK suppressed with the JP spring is awesome. |

I like mine. Runs great. Would be better at 75-100 instead of 130 but I'd buy again. I'm interested in the 5 spring set the offer for it to custom tune even further.

| Like has been mentioned, it is an expensive upgrade... but it does make for a smoother action... screw in your buffer tube so that the JPSC is making slight contact with your bcg and all the buffer clunks and impacts are gone... no blot slap no spring noise... just a kachunk of the bolt locking in. I absolutely put one in on a suppressed rifle, not so much in a rifle I dont run suppressed much. |

I have one in my only .300 SBR and it works well. It is a tad too expensive but it works... I did have to put a quarter inside the bottom of my tube to get reliable feeding though. You don't need a quarter in there. Just thread in your extension until the bcg is kissing the buffer. |

Came here to say this. I coat my spring with CLP and don't hear shit for spring noise. A fancy sound suppressor spring is unnecessary. Quoted:

I put a small amount of CLP in my buffer tube. What "sproing" sound? Came here to say this. I coat my spring with CLP and don't hear shit for spring noise. A fancy sound suppressor spring is unnecessary. I did the same , it's not the same. The JPSCS eliminates more than just spring noise. If I stuck with "necessary" all I would have was a bolt action .223

Quoted: Anyone running one of the flat-coil springs spoken about in the video referenced above? This particular rifle will most likely not run suppressed anytime soon. I have the Tubb, I was using it for awhile in my bump gun. I wasn't paying much attention to spring noise, just putting rounds on target at 750rpm |

recently tried the jp scs. After first test session. I ordered some. What a difference. Smooth is the best way to describe it. Tuned the gas system and scs to match and wow! More costly than I like but still had to buy IMO tuning the gas system to the JPSCS is critical to gaining all the advantage it can provide. I used the lightest spring set and an adjustable gasblock ( i was going to use a low mass carrier but I wanted reliability over a wider spread of ammo) and it resulted in a very smooth operating and quiet AR. It is hard to past the initial kick in the nuts... which is the price. In the big picture when considering ammo expenditures, the pain recedes quickly |

I guess I'm lucky. I've been reading about the "sproing" for quite awhile now and I have to confess that having fired whole shipload of AR's I've never heard (or noticed, at least) the sproing.
Maybe it's the hearos hearing protection, but how you could hear a spring over the sound of a .223 round going off is beyond me. |

Having shot many ar15s, m4s, m16s, at home and in the sandbox, I will say the springy noise really gets on my nerves. I if you don't think you are hearing spring noise then do not, I repeat do not, try one of the silent captured springs, you can never go back. Now that I have used one, I will never be able to shoot another ar15 without one because of the noise alone. But it is also very smooth. You just have to try it to understand it. And yes, pricey. Without the JPS spring I can hear the spring noise unsuppressed but when shooting 300 BLK suppressed it is really obnoxious! |
