Ok I went out this weekend and I had a problem.
My bushmaster for the first time began to jam. I figured out what was happening but don’t know why all of a sudden this is occurring.
For some reason the mags are now able to tilt in the mag well just enough to hook the B/C or allow the tip of the round to stop on the back of the chamber just below the feed ramps. This is happening on several of my mags that have been reliable to date.
Twice on the second round attempted to be fired out of a full mag, Then several times
In the middle of a full mag. If I push forward on the bottom rear of the mag the bolt will then release and chamber the round.

What may have caused this to happen!
I had some extra cash and ordered Magpul followers and Magpul’s for all my mags.
I have 13 30 round mags over all. 6 are Bushmaster 4 are Center industries and the remaining 3 are unmarked gun show cheapies but have never caused a problem.
My 3 oldest mags (Bushmasters) have been fitted with Magpul gear for months and until now never caused a jam. I installed Magpul gear on the remaining mags before I went shooting this weekend. I was using the same Ammo I have been shooting for a while
Now, bulk 55gr Mil Surp. I clean the weapon after each and every time I shoot.
The gun is still relatively new and has only had 2K rounds through it. I have not altered or added anything to this rifle other than an Accu-wedge.

Things I did:
I inspected the magwell for debris, flaws, or any damage or deformation. Found none that my eyes could see. I adjusted my mag catch in and out to see if it would hold the mag tighter in place this did not help. What does help is if I put forward pressure on the bottom back of the mag. The Bolt and Carrier look ok to my eye.
So I do not know what to think. Is it the extra weight of the new followers in combination with the Magpul’s that is the problem?
Lost and looking for a solution. Thanks to all in advance for your help.

Did you replace the mag springs when you added the Magpul followers?

Nope
I did not see the need to replace them nor did I think to do so.
All my stuff is new I bought the rifle new in January of this year and all the mags are new with the exception of the 3 cheapies. These originally had black followers. To my surprise these three cheapies did not have a problem this weekend.

sounds like a quality control issue.....contact bushmaster.....you might have a " loose" mag well....maybe spec was off  just a bit when the reciever was made....

question.....you by chance have not been using any steel mags have you???? i have heard that over a period of time the steel mags(non aluminum) have been known to "woller" out mag wells in AR's....

Thats Bull shit steel mags will wear out a mag well...not.Your bolt carrier isnt wearing out your upper, are your hammer and trigger pins wearing out your lower.Or how about AR10s from armalite or Bushmaster one uses M14 mags and the other FAL mags both steel. How about SIG pistols any ones SIG mag well get messed up on a steel mag as SIGs have aluminum alloy frames with a steel slide. If your hard heat treated steel components are not wearing out your upper or lower I wouldnt worry about the magwell.Steel mags dont buldge over time and magwells arent tight to a point where  a mag of any kind will cause that type of friction unless its buldging. If you beleive that I guess after 12000 rounds I should change my upper because my carrier is wearing it out even though my carrier still fits the same as it did when the rifle was new.I use the brit steel grey mags and personaly I think they are way tougher and stronger than the aluminum..steel mags are not gonna wear out a lower if they did than why is H&K making one that we use on a limited basis, its had its problems but causing a lower to wear prematurely wasnt one.

Whoa lets not get too excited here. He did say he heard, not that it was fact that steel mags wear out the magwell. I understand your point though. I feel my rifle is way to new for anything to be worn at this point. I also feel that if it were out of spec I would have been having these problems from the get go.

Thanks for the information and ideas
