Stag Lower with a Del-Ton 16" Mid-lenth rifle kit and 3 MOA 42mm red-dot sight. Cut down front sight. Ergonomic front grip and screw-on handguard rails. Total for everything came out to $656.92. Thanks to the forum for the How-to article for the lower build, couldn't have done it without the guides.

Looks good.

What made you grind down the FS, and how hard was it to do?

I was having difficulty seeing over the front sight when looking through my red-dot sight, so I decided the front sight had to go. It was easy to do. Took maybe 10 minutes. Tap out the gas tube roll pin and the two front sight securing pins (from left to right in my case) then remove the flash-hider. Lube the barrel with silicone lube. Then slide the front sight off, clamp in a vice and use your pneumatic cut-off wheel to chop sight off but leave the areas where the gas flows through uncut. Then clean-up the cuts with a bench grinder. Spray with some high-temp flat black BBQ paint and re-assemble.

Cool.

Do you think you could have done it without taking off the barrel too?  I'm thinking about this for my first build so I can run longer handgaurds, but am not sure yet.

Yeah. It can be done without taking the front sight off, but it won't look nearly as finished. You also have a higher chance of nicking the barrel and/or handguards. IMO the front sight was easy enough to remove to avoid cosmetic damages.

Nice job, later you might think about a flip down front sight gas block, so you retain your Iron Sight capability, or a FF rail, and a flip down front sight.
