Hey guys, I am the noob here and to AR's. Got my first AR in the mail today. Colt LE6920 NIB. I love it. I am looking into modifications here on the forums. I am taking it out to the range this weekend with 500 rds to break her in.

Oh I will. my ammo is Tul because it was cheap so I know not to blame the gun if its less than perfect. But, I traded for a NIB Glock 27 with a couple of extras so I got a great deal.

What do you guys push the pins through with if they are really tight? I oiled them and they are still very snug.

Nice rifle. Good way to start the AR collection.

The pins can be a real bear until they break in a bit, I tap them with a rubber mallet if they're stubborn.

Couldn't of done better for a first AR! Just try working the pins back and forth, they'll loosen up. My first AR was a Colt too..not this particular one, but one just like it.
That was almost 38 years ago!

P.S. How did you get it in the mail?

They will loosen with use. If you can't push them out with your fingers then you can use a Derlin punch or similar.

Cool, thanks for the tips. I will work with the pins. I love handling this thing. Its hard to not dump alot of money into Magpul and Troy until after I shoot. I have plans for this gun.

This.

Can never go wrong with a COLT.

ETA: I read that you traded a GLOCK for it.  I take back what I said.

Nice to see affordable Colts !
Congrats !

Here's the pin punch I like. There is also a trigger pin punch available.
As stated above, they're made of Delrin which is a high density plastic (leaves no marks).

In a pinch, take a short piece of chopstick and tap to get the pin started.
Lube the pin's groove once it's out. I like grease, but oil is OK too.

lol. I am a dealer. I traded a NIB G27 that I was selling on GunBroker. Not a personal gun. I still have my Glocks.

Found an auction on Ebay for a pin pusher and went with that idea and made my own.  It is a spent 223 casing with a Delrin Pin epoxy'd into the casing

excellent choice of EBR rifle, OP!

I am so jealous of all the people buying up the new Colt M4s.  I already have a LE6920 I bought in 2009, but I would love to have an M4(A1) marked lower.  Too bad Colt doesn't sell stripped lowers.  They would make a freakin' fortune.

here's some options for mods.  This thread demonstrates how much money one can spend on just one gun.

Something pointy.

But seriously if you look at Sinclair international they make nifty little delrin tools to push the pins out.

This tool is specifically designed for hard-to-push takedown pins. Available at Brownells.

This gun is not a recent build. The original owner bought two back when Obama was going into office and this one has sat in a safe the whole time. The dates on the box are from during the AWB. It has the LE only markings.

I think I might actually get to go shoot this coming weekend if the rain will stay away. I got a wild hair today and took my BCG apart to clean it. It had a sticky oily feeling and had some gooped up white grease in a couple of places. The bolt did not move freely within the carrier either. So, I took her apart and gave her a solvent bath. dried, lubed with Mobil 1 5-30 and put her back together. Her action is slick as glass now. Sorry, no before pics.

Another conversation on here lead me to look at the bag the gun was wrapped in again. It was made September 2004.
