Rifle length gas tube + carbine buffer tube = bad
Carbine length gas tube + Rifle length buffer tube = good Right???

your joking right? gas tubes types have NO relation to buffer tube types. buffers and buffer tubes must match. either rifle/rifle or carbine/carbine, mix'em you you got problems. So now if I go put my rifle upper on a carbine lower it will function, but the buffer will not be heavy enough to slow down the BCG enough to keep the rifle from beating itself to death correct? So if I put in a "Heavy buffer" (H2 or H3?) that should make it a compatable combination? What about mid-length gas systems, what do you do there? Just curious, I'm an A2 fixed stock kinda guy Indy |

as i understand it. the rifle length gas tube is "better" on the buffer since it has a long time/length to expand. whereas the carbine gas tube has a short time/length to expand and still has more "oomph" even after it reaches the expansion chamber of the bcg. due to this, it isn't necessary to have as heavy a buffer as you would with, say, an 16", 14", 12", 10". the shorter the gas tube the heavier buffer is needed.
on the flip side, with a carbine upper and a rifle lower. the weigh of the rifle buffer is heavier than an h3 or just as heavy, iirc. |

I think I over simplified my question: I have a rifle upper that has a rifle length buffer tube and buffer I want to get a carbine upper (16in) and put it on the rifle lower Is that ok Technically you have a rifle upper that has a rifle length gas tube... Your upper has no buffer tube. You also have a lover with a rifle length stock on it and therefor a rifle buffer tube, buffer, and spring. You want to place a carbine gas system upper on a rifle length stocked lower... Which is fine. tube, spring, and buffer must match. gas tube must match block placement... But generally speaking the two run independent of each other. |
