Hey guys! Thanks for all the help. I ended up ordering a Bushmaster Predator. It's the right length and weight for carry, but still free floated and accurate. The 1x8 twist will let me get into long range if I want. Should be a good all around gun.
I'll post some pictures of it as soon as it have it! Only remaining issue is the scope. All I've got is an old Tasco Pronghorn, so obviously I'll be waiting a while to do any real long range shooting... 100+ yards will be alright tho, I used that scope on my .22 for that |

Leupold Rifleman 3-9x50
This is what I use on mine, I love it and its less than $300 EDIT for pic's, I use the Burris XTR rings

Here it is! Don't mind the crappy glass. Tasco Pronghorn. It gets the job done for now.

Not sure if it is me or the ammo. I'm still getting used to it. only 60 rounds through it so far. 55 gr, FMJ, "AE223J". It's hitting the plinker thing just fine though out to 150. That's as far as I've tried (end of the day). Wanna try farther soon! |
| Looking good bud! The tasco glass will do good for awhile, all you worry about with those is longevity. The glass mentioned above would be a good buy for that rifle. Something I have never really got into is long range shooting, and also plan to get into this year. |

Thats about what I get with Wolf 55gr, and mine is 1x8 also If you want to see what it can really do, get some 77gr Sierra's I have a steel plinker target and so far I can hit that out to about 150 no problem. Honestly, the only time between my shots is courtesy for the target... It's just far enough to watch the bullet hit, then I have a bead on it immediately again and I literally am waiting to pull again. I almost feel sorry for the 'hogs now... but not really. Yeah- my next step is to up the bullet grain and see if I can tighten that group. That was all one brand, however, too. I bought a cheap box of 100 Federal 55gr's from Walmart and I wanna try those before I buy something more expensive. At the rate I'm going through brass, I'll be reloading too... |

I lived in crappy-glass-land until I stepped into good glass land, and I understand the difference. I was using a Bushy Elite 3200 (~$230) on some Burris XTR rings for about 3 years. I recently stepped up to a Leupold Mark 4 LR/T M1 on some Larue rings and the difference is night and day.
I wasn't before, but now I'm a strong believer of buy once, cry once. |
