Does anyone know if KAC or someone else makes a suitable mandrel to press out the dents?

Thanks

I made my own mandrel from bar stock.

It's also possible to bang them out from the inside by tapping on the side of a piece of steel that reaches into the body of the mag ~(obviously) have to take care to avoid the lips and baseplate tabs.

Take one to a paintless dent repair facility - see what they say.

Me dumb.

Mag stops working, throw it out.

Actually, take it, strip the follower, spring, and baseplate, then smash it flat with the cinderblock holding the door open.

You could try this Dont know how big the ID is. Slide it in under the dent. Screw up the top to push out the dent.

Someone suggested a piece of oak with the mag body channels routered,  now to talk to my retired woodworking hobbyist neighbor...

Curious to this, as one of my Colt 20 rounders has a dent significant enough to hinder it's capacity to half. What would be the proper process for fixing a dent with this so-called mandrel, or that tappy tap method? Or a picture of the mandrel could be helpful too.

Paid a fair chunk for two of them so I'd like to try to restore this one perhaps (though an archived thread on mag repairs was full of 99% of "toss it")

You can use a wrench socket that fits tight into the mag body as well push it a few times past the dent.

The ak section has a lot of mag repair info that may be applicable. May be archived though.

The reason we say toss it is because mags are generally a consumable.

Time is money. Depending on cost and availability it is generally worth it to just buy a few more. (You know… to save on shipping)

In a State like Az awash with USGI 5.56 aluminum mags I wouldn't bother removing a dent on one.  Other folks may not have the same options.

Being in a ban-state I have had motivation to salvage whatever I could.

Can't come up with the dolly/madrel at the moment for a photo.  Essentially a piece of steel that rather precisely matches the interior width of the mag body is placed inside at the position of the dent, the body is placed on a flat anvil and then careful strikes to the body can push out the dent - dent-side up or down can produce different influences.  Some I crushed out between the jaws of a vice (with the mandrel in the body supporting it).

For reaching into the mag just think of a L-shaped piece steel where the base of the L is large enough to comfortably clear the feed-lips or baseplate tabs when reaching into the mag.  The mag body rests dent-side down on an anvil, reach in with the L to place the tip of the base on the interior side of the dent and tap the side of the tool with a hammer to drive the dent out.

Keep in mind that it can take many taps, or multiple squeezes with a vice, and careful repositioning of the support/mandrel/tool along the way.

I have made an assortment of tools to allow me to straighten feed lips, feed lip back corners, baseplates and tabs, and most of the other areas/details of mags.  Just little metal-working tools that fit the various shapes.

Following this… just picked up a bunch of these. Make Scar/mr762 mags seem cheap. Especially in a neutered capacity state.

That would definitely be an option, an extension would make it easier to position exactly where you want it inside the mag body.

Another option is 3 pieces of wood, at least 2 hardwood. One hardwood piece cut to the exact inside width of the mag, one hardwood piece to hit from the top, and another chunk of wood underneath the mag body.
