Whats the purpose of the raised portion on the RAS II.  What are people mounting on that little strip that comes back over the top of the receiver?

[speculation] reference to reciever? [/speculation]

To clarify,  the best benefit I could conceive of is that it would make reference to the A# upper that you know stays put. *shrug*

A good combination comes to mind: an Aimpoint with a low profile American Defense mount.

I believe it's an anchor point to the upper...the RASII is a free float hand guard, but you do not have to remove the stock hand guard cap, delta ring and FSB; hence the "hump" anchor bridge.  I have not handled one since SHOT 2000...so I might be wrong.  It's one of the few KAC handguard systems that they ALWAYS have in stock-seems like they are not nearly as popular as the RAS, RIS or the conventional free-float tubes that Knight's offers.  I'm impartial to the FF RAS "MRE" model for carbines, myself.

You have it correct.  The "bridge"of our (KAC) RAS II with its cross-bolt/clamp, and its clamp that engages under the lip of the barrel nut, are what holds the rail truw to the host weapon upper receiver.  Thus providing a free-floating barrel at an extemely low level of effort and no gun modification.

And its removable lower is a version of our secure SAS type lower RIS/RAS rails.  Absolutely the best of both world's IMHO.

And thanks to Quarterbore above (see the link), always nice to see some of my work & photos...

Your welcome ColdBlue...I am a fan and user of KAC goodness since I owned my dearly departed SR-25 from "KMC"...don't ask-it was not voluntary...grrr.

Please make a SR-"26" for those of us that live in restricted by "name/model" states.

Love my RAS setups...rock solid.  Nice write up in SAR too BTW.

I really like my RAS II, too bad you don't make a mid-length version....
