What's the 411 on this rail system?
If you have one do you like it?
If you had one why didn't you like it?

I like mine.  Good kit, stable platform so long as it is on a milspec upper.  Some people have had problems with the tube shifting on non-spec uppers.  Mine has been solid.  I normally run an M68 on mine, but the pic has an ACOG.  Also keep a SF light on there as well.  The hump allows the sight to cowit with irons, and locks onto the upper as intended.

additional question for RAS II owners.  The top seems to be a free-float design, is the bottom also FF?

The whole thing is freefloat.  Never heard of freefloat top and contacting lower.  That's kind of included in the freeflaot concept:  nothing touches the bbl.

On the RAS2, can the bottom panel from an RAS be used or is the RAS2 bottom the only one that will work.

No they don't interchange.

There is a clamp assembly aft and tongue-and-groove type lock forward on the bottom rail that engages the top.  The forward notch keeps the lower part from moving forward, and the rear clamp holds the guard on with tension against the barrel nut.  That is what makes it freefloat as opposed to the RIS that engages the front handguard cap.

I was refering to the free float RAS and RAS2, not the clamp on hangaurd RIS.

I have one as well and its been great. The only thing I would mention is that its not ideal if you plan on using the EoTech that uses the AA batteries, no room for BUIS, its better suited for an Aimpoint.

No prob.  ColdBlue is a great source for info on KAC if you need to know anything.

If you don't run an Aimpoint, don't bother.

That said, I do run an Aimpoint, and it's the perfect marriage between the optic & a ff railed forend.

I've been ruinning one for a while now and I love it. Very stable and my aimpoint has always held zero.

As long as you're using an Aimpoint, you will not be disappointed.

I have two and think they are great!

I only wish they would offer one in a mid-length version... Cold Blue once mentioned it wouldn't be hard to do, if I remember correctly.... (hint hint)

Oh sure, it's easy when you have instructions.  Jeez, my thumbs are bleeding, and then I get this and all i had to do was remove the damned screws first.

Thanks for the info.
