Anyone in/from the Kansas City area that knows of good gun shops within a reasonable driving distance, preferably AR "specialists" for obvious reasons?

Denny's Guns in North KC.  Look them up in the phone book or in the EE.

Great AR store w/ AR15.com member discounts.  But, there is only one guy in the store that posts here and knows about ARs. The rest of the employees are your typical hunting rifle guys, and are cluelss.

I've also heard good things about Denny's Guns. I have a friend who knows a guy that works there (might be the owner, can't remember) but he will build you what you want if he doesn't already have it there.
Good prices too.
Unfortunately, I haven't made it up there yet, so this is just what I've heard. I may have bad info. You'll have to judge for yourself, but it would probably be worth a visit.

If you don't mind a 2 hour drive, we are 30 minutes NW of Columbia and basically only have AR products.

The Bullet Hole in Overland Park always has a large selection of AR-15 and numerous other evil battle rifles.  I wouldn't call them "specialists", per se, but they carry them.  The also have an indoor pistol range, and carry reloading supplies.

Cabela's in Kansas City carries some AR-15's, but not a large selection.  The do have lots of reloading supplies, accessories and cheap bulk ammo.

Thanks. I'll have to check out Denny's Guns in the next week or so when I get a chance. Jeff, when I finally get closer to buy-time I'll start to talk to you a bit more about prices and such, a 2 hour drive wouldn't be bad to pick up a rifle, and I've got some friends in Columbia I've been meaning to visit anyways.

Hey, Denny here from Denny's Guns.  The retail shop is run by Chuck Younger.  I hide out in the back and do my manufacturing and custom stuff.

If you want to see me call 816 809 9452 and we can get together.  I am always happy to see ARF guys.  I will even give you a tour of the machine gun vault.
