I purchased a KX3 here on the EE. When I installed it the pig and logo kept timing at 2 and 8 o clock. I called Noveske for a washer and when I got it, it now times at 3 and 9 BUT it's upside down. Also, it can only be hand tightened because of my rail.  I am using a DD lite rail and if I take the rail off to install the rail won't slip back on. The KX3's diameter is wider than the rail. Any advice for those of you who have them?

Most AR-15 muzzle devices are timed.  There are two types of washers which allow this.  Most newer devices come with a "crush washer".  Thats just what it does.  You tighten the device to the timing position you want, it the washer crushes as you do this.  Its easiest of you have the upper in some receiver block, or the barrel in a barrel vice.  They are meant to be wrench tightened.  Once crushed, the crush washer does not rebound.

The older type of timing washer is called a "peel washer"  which is really many layers of metal, laminated together.  Using a heat, you remove layers as needed to get the timing where you want it.  Its more of a trial and error pain, which is why its not used much any more.

Either one will fit your needs, just out smart the thing.  Noveske probably sent you a crush washer, which you are limited ability to tighten by the rail.

Take the KX-3 off, take the rail off, put the upper in a reveicer block, with the crush washer in place, install and tighten the KX-3 to the proper pisition.  It sounds like you will tighten about 180 deg of crush.  Then loosen, then hand tighten and see where you are.  You will probably have to over crush the washer a little, so it times correctly by hand.  Once there, put it all back together.  Once you are sure you are in the right place, I'd use some locktight since its only hand tight.

Also, you may be able to use a strap wrench on the KX-3.

I did this and used a wrench and it timed no problem.  However the rail will not slip back on since the diameter of the KX3 is wider than the DD Lite rail. If there was a way I can tighten the damn thing while the rail is on, it will work.

Just use a strap wrench.

So with a strap wrench and some elbow grease I was able to get the sucker on. As I was putting everything back together, I did a function test and when I charged it my gas tube came off.  I previously took it off thinking I can attach the pig, take the barrel off and slip the rail on from the rear. I decided not to go that route since I don't have a barrel wrench. I guess when I put it back on, I did not get the roll pin for the tube in snug so the gas tube cam off.  Now I can't get the pig off to get the rail off and I might have lost the roll pin...HOLY $#!+!!!!!
