Alright I'm hoping that this creates a good buzz of information because when it comes to I don't know as much as I would like on the subject.
I'm building my 2nd AR and I'm making this one everything I've ever dreamed of, which means I'm overly picky on everything that I'm putting in to it. Which brings me to the question which is better. Now I know that's a loaded question and it depends on what I want. So here's a list: 1. Modular 2. Lots of possibilities for attachments I.E. lights, grips, ect 3. Sturdy attachment (should be number one) Those are really the only things I can think of at the moment. I know this list is broad and describes both. at least I believe it does. I've also been a huge supporter of magpul and I want to make sure that if I do go with M-lok I'm not sacrificing options and buying just because its magpul. And I would love your recommendations. Thanks in advanced. |
| There are plenty of options for both in terms of hand guards and accessories, owning both I prefer m-lok. I believe it's a stronger system and visually more appealing. I've had accessories that even with locktite became loose or dislodged on my keymod hand guard. |

I chose HD DVD over Blu-ray and got burnt. Should have gone with the one a major company was backing ie Sony.
In this case I went with mlok because of magpul. All their stuff attaches right to it and lets face it we are all magpul junkies. There is nothing wrong with keymod both systems work great but in long term magpul has a longer reach and I could see it being adopted by the military and ultimately becoming a standard |

I have both and prefer Keymod functionally, the Mlok T nuts don't always turn when you want them too, don't get me wrong it works, but Keymod has been faster and easier for me. Either one is secure when tightened, just different methods of getting there.
You really can't go wrong with either right now, I love the BCM KMR so I just picked up another one. I feel like industry is leaning towards Mlok, but at the same time you have guns like Sig MCX/MPX and Ruger SR556 that are using keymod on their proprietary hand guards so neither is going anywhere for a while I'd say. |
| I too have both mounting options and I would opt for M-Lok every time at this point. M-Lok attachments are harder to mount initially, but they spread the pressure accross a greater surface area and hold more securely once they're on. Most of us probably wouldn't run into many issues either way, but there are enough reports of high round-count rifles having Keymod attachments loosen and/or sheer off over long periods of time. |
| I like MLok as well. In addition to what's been mentioned already, I like that it isn't directional. With that said, I have had some T nuts not want to turn with MLok, but I've found running the bolt all the way in and out of the nut before going to install it helps significantly. |

In this case bluerays work in hddvd player and vice versa |

Mlok. If not Mlok, then back to the quad rails for me. Mlok is what got me away from quads to begin with.
I like the way it sets up, that it is stronger and more secure, and that it is also aesthetically pleasing as well and proves that function over form can look good and be solidly innovating at the same time. |

I just got my first key-mod, and had M-lok before that. If the key-mod hadn't been standard on that rifle, or if it wasn't already there on sale, I probably would have held out for the M-lok, just because in looking at the system, it appeared that when the Key-mod is in use, a good strong rearward impact can drive the attachments from the tight portion to the open portion and allow the item to come loose. I think this is much more likely to happen to a rifle than the two M-lok attachment screws to both turn 90% and come loose.
No, it hasn't happened to me, and I haven't heard anyone tell of it happening to anyone else, but just something that presented itself as possibly a flaw in the attachment system. |

Nail vs screw. MLOK vs Keymod. It is the same thing people. Look at these two images, first is an MLOK rail section directly from Magpul's website, second is a Keymod rail section directly from BCM's website. They both use force exerted in a forward/rearward and side-side fashion to secure the rail section. https://www.magpul.com/Admin/Public/GetImage.ashx?Image=/Files/Files/Images/Products/Rails/MAG581/Double/MAG581-double-4-15.png&altFmImage_path=/Files/Files/Images/Products/noImage.png&Width=500&Height=320&Crop=5 http://cdn3.volusion.com/j4enh.r2en5/v/vspfiles/photos/BCM-KMR-1913-A4-3T.jpg?1456827038 Exactly how it is done is slightly different. But properly made attachments in either style will get the job done. I don't want warehouse shelving. |

MLOK is secured fore and aft. Key mod isn't. Care to explain? Because pretty sure by the picture I posted it is. See that circle on the right of each nut? Pretty sure that applies the pressure on the backside. That is how mine works. Again, how does it not provide the same support as MLOK in the 4 major directions? |

Again, how does it not provide the same support as MLOK in the 4 major directions? The T-nuts in MLOK are against the begining or ending of each MLOK slot. The MLOK accessories actually jump over the slots. Bout the shittiest way I can describe it. Maybe someone else can do it better. MLOK is much stronger than Keymod. You may call it marketing, but Magpul themselves explain it best. Keymod and MLOK may have been developed to do the same thing, but MLOK does it better. |

I have both and like them both, if I had to pick one it would be the Mlok though. It's a shame that BCM doesn't offer an Mlok version of the KMR, though that would probably be the death of Keymod. Yes it's also a shame Ford doesn't make a Mustang with a corvette motor. Most people who have one between the two choose whichever they have on their rifles. I have Keymod. And I beat the holy hell out if my guns. Nary a light nor a VFG nor a single accessory of any kind has come loose, deformed, fallen off during firing, or had a single failure of any kind. My most "well loved" rifle fell off the top of my SUV this weekend when I forgot it was up there. BCM KMR held up as did the stuff latched to it. No reason to ever change. If it hasn't fallen off yet, it ain't gonna. |

Nobody at these stores knows what the hell a key-mod is. Key-Mod is dead.... Sorry. |

Sorry. The day keymod dies is when BCM comes out with an mlok version of the KMR Paul Buffoni (BCM) has said he is open to making m-lok at some point, but that his keymod rails and accessories are selling well enough that he doesn't feel the need. Got a local store here in Vegas, big proponent of all thing BCM (justifiably). Owner told me he would would likely never sell M-lok, because of that affiliation. That was a few months ago. Went in a couple days ago, now he has a large section for M-lok accessories, more than for keymod. I've gone M-lok, partially due to the expressed opinion of Bill Geisselle. I consider it a more secure attachment method, if the user does it right. Personally, I would love a m-lok KMR setup. |
