I have a friend that wants to get into ARs.  He wants to build it from a kit and is looking to me for recommendations on which kit to buy.  He wants a 20 inch barrel and iron sights, but also wants to be able to add optics at a later date.

I was thinking a kit from either Model 1 sales or J&T distributing.  Does anyone have recommendations on which company has the best kit, or possibly another source?  Cost is a strong factor, but it needs to be reliable since he doesn’t have a lot of experience with firearms.

Thanks,

with the two you have in mind i would go with jt by a long shot.

they make better quality kits in my opinion. the price is not too much more either. go with a flattop for sure if you plan on going with optics. just get it a carry handle or some sort of buis for now.

I was looking at J&T's website and it looks like there 20 inch kit is not chrome lined.  Do you think that would be a problem?  If it was me I wouldn't worry about it but not sure when recommending it to someone else.

If its a paper puncher, don't worry about the chrome. Regardless, you can have J&T chrome it for $50

I think that the extra $ is worth it to get the chrome.
