I have an Oly lower I bought almost a decade ago. I bought two and built her brother into a regular 20" plane jane rifle and went through HELL with some junk kit I bought. Ended up having to replace the bolt/carrier, and since then, I've loved it! Now I'm looking at building a 16" CAR kit. I think I want the chrome bolt/carrier, and I'm still on the fence about the stock (4/6 position? AL?) Any advice about where to buy a kit? Without dropping any names, I see the guys that sold me junk before are still online/in business, but I'm hesitant to go that route again. Any advice would be appreciated. |
I had the same experience with M1S; okay, but probably would not use them again. Their prices have gone up too. I've been really, really happy with Del-Ton. I've heard good things about CMMG. Lots of folks speak highly of J&T too, but I had a bad experience with them this summer. I haven't used M&A since there is a story floating around about their owner attacking someone at a gunshow. General concensus is to stay away from Blackthorne. I've been really pleased with Bushmaster, they are a class act. Folks speak highly of RRA, but I'm staying away after I got some A1 stocks in really shabby condition from them last month. |
Damn, you've had a bad experience with everyone! I was considering M1S but if their LPK sucks, I don't want to do that. I'll have do more research. I've also been reading a lout about Garrison Mfg, but I don't know enough about them yet. Del-Ton or J&T would both be good from what I've read.

Interesting, in that the kit I was talking about came from M1S in the first place, way back in '98. I can't believe they're still in business, but what the hell do I know? I just know they sold me a kit that made me want to pull the trigger with my toe, if it would have only fired. Then I got a Bushmaster bolt/carrier in it, then I was as happy as a clam. See how I'm hesitant to go down that road again? I'm leaning towards Del-Ton. Anyone have an opinion? Oly wants to piece-meal a kit, as if they don't know the world they live in. Kits? Hellooo! |
| Del-Ton ,They have supplied several kits and uppers to myself and a host of friends and I don't think any of us have had any problems at all.The last kit bought was an M-4 style flattop and just got checked out yesterday with great success. If you get a Del-Ton kit and not a DPMS it will save a lot of money and his uppers are high quality.Tony and his wife are great to deal with also. |

Between J&T and Del-Ton, I'd pick Del-Ton. I've always been happy with the stuff I got from them. They've been responsive to requests, and have nicely packed all the parts I've ordered, including small ones such as gas tube roll pins. Their quality control is great and their shipping is fast. I heard good things about J&T too, so I thought I'd buy a commando barrel from them, the price was right. That was this past July. It didn't come by last month, so I checked my credit card and found it wasn't charged. I sent them an e-mail asking about the status of my order, and asking them to please cancel it if it hadn't been processed yet. They didn't even show me the courtesy of a response. That wasn't really a big deal, but there are so many companies doing business with good prices out there that I have no reason to go back. ETA: all4freedom, the M1S LPK wasn't bad. Del-Ton has good ones too, and I think their prices might be better. |
