Hope this is not another re-hashed question.
But, has anyone ever used Kroil ( the stuff Brownells sells)?
What did you think, was it a good gun oil, bore solvent etc.

Thanks,
Gavin

I’ve used Aero Kroil in the past and it seemed to work pretty good at removing firing residue. It sure gets the barrel squeaky clean and I mean that literally! As I ran the patch soaked with Kroil down the barrel of one of my AR’s the patch actually made a squeaking sound like a squeegee. I’m not sure of the ability of Kroil to remove copper, in that area I saw no results.

I would not use it as a  gun oil.

Kroil mixed with JB Bore Paste is used by a bunch of the benchrest crowd.

I just use the stuff as a penetrating oil, which it works great as.

Yep, works pretty good in that area. I’ve used it in General Aviation to free rusted exhaust system hardware.

I have never used Kroil as a gun cleaner, just as a penetrating oil. Also, we always called it 'panther piss'

Not cheap but some of the best stuff out there for breaking loose rusted hardware etc.

With enough Kroil you could pound a telephone pole up a gnat's ass. The stuff is great.

You should send an email to the manufacturer and tell them you found a new use.

I only use Kroil as penetrating oil, but if I ever have a gnat and a telephone pole...

Some people use it 50/50 with Butch's Bore Shine. I've tried it 50/50 with Hoppe's No. 9
& it seems to clean better than straight Hoppe's.

+1 for a 50/50 mix with Hoppes #9.

Wet the bore and let it sit for about 15 minutes then clean out with patches.  Amazing what comes out and how few patches you use to get the barrel clean.

I'd rather mix it with the Hoppe's than the Shooter's Choice.  I think the benchrest people discovered bad things can happen if you mix it with an ammonia based cleaner.

Kroil is good stuff for cleaning.  Not good for lubrication.  Does not remove copper fouling.

I mix 1/3 Kroil, 1/3 automatic transmission fluid, and 1/3 mineral spirits.  The combination cleans and protects the bore from rust....not so important for chrome lined bores.

I am going to have to try the Kroil and JB.  That should do it all: clean and remove copper.

I have used it only as a penetrating oil for stubborn barrel nuts, FSB pins, AK barrel pins...well you get the idea.
