Hi guys.  Does anyone know the name of the color of BLACK paint one must use in order to closest resemble the color on the majority of AR's?  Reason being that I have a couple of worn down stocks that I want to spoof up and a friend of mine recommended KRYLON paints..what do you guys think? Have you had any experience with Krylon? Can I use it to CAMO my rifle?  Please let me know...especially about the specific BLACK i should use.
THanks

Don't know about the black color question.

I have used the paint from one of those krylon camo paint kits to paint the stocks on two M1A's and an M1.  I'm perfectly satisfied with it.  Haven't scratched them up yet but if I did it would be easy to touch it up or repaint it.

I use Brownells Alumahyde II.  The matte black color is a great match, and the Alumahyde holds up great if you get bore cleaner on it.  Krylon doesn't always do this.

+1      Brownells Alumahyde II flat black.   Don't use Krylon.

I would just use the camo black on the stocks. If you were painting the metal parts of the gun, then I'd recomend the engine paint and baking it, but the Krylon camo is about the only over the counter thing available locally that sticks to plastic.

What about dressing up a gun for camo? Are there any alternatives to Duracoat? I'm considering painting the whole thing but I don't want to put a bunch of successive coats of spray paint to cover up scratches, whats going to hold up real well on the receivers and plastic components?

Great stuff! Matte black works good as well. As with any paint use a test area for color match, before you coat the component. I used Alumahyde on my beat up, hacked up (for the fore end weight) , handguards for my DCM rifle and it has held up perfectly. Lots of use and abuse and they look like I never painted them.

WORD to the WISE ......Give what ever you paint with htis stuff PLENTY of time to cure.
Even with heat it will stay somewhat pliable for a week or so. If you have the time wait......wait....wait and it will perform for you.

Krylon Ultra Flat Black.  That said, go with the Alumahyde.

I use flat black high temp paint from a auto parts store or Walmart.
