I use a BAD on my standard ARs ans so MoA is the same but I wish my carbine had a chromed lined barrel.

I think part of the 'lack of popularity' is because of the  scarcity of the LAR8.  RRA doesn't have the manufacting capacity to keep up with demand.  They were backordered for over a year back when I was looking for a 20", and I never ordered one because of that.  Luckily, a dealer close by had something like 10 of them ordered for stock and when they finally came in and he put them on his web site they sold out in less than a week.  I called and reserved the last two for my cousin and myself and we drove up and picked them up the next morning.
DPMS was on the list also and they were available everywhere and selling like hotcakes too, but I am glad I lucked out and got a RRA.

I believe they will continue to catch on and become more popular.  For the last year,I've been contemplating on which brand to buy and I'm still undecided. I would love to have an Armalite, but I cant get past the special mags being three times the cost Having a decent supply of mags shouldnt cost as much as the rifle itself. RRA makes some fine rifles, but they currently do not manufacture what I'm looking for. Maybe I'll save up for a SR-25.

Cheap FAL mags are gone. FAL mags at all are hard to come by right now.

for those interested aimsurplus.com has new fal mags for $15
right now.

Problem with LAR8 popularity is you can get 7.62 pmags for $18.95 from AIM.  It was a great concept a few years back with all decent M1A and AR10 mags were $50+.  You could justify a large portion of the cost of the rifle on mag availability / cost difference.  I was on the verge of getting one but ended up getting a DPMS (currently selling) and more recently a LMT MWS.  I have abandoned steel and alum mags for Pmags in both 556 and 308 now.

I bought 12 metric  fal mags at the fun show for 120.00 about 6 months ago in excellent condition . just my opinion but I wouldnt let a plastic magazine be the deciding factor in a weapon purchase.

I believe some "Polymer" mags have proven to be stronger and more reliable than the alternative.  SR25 pattern mags have become the standard for ARs in 308 (POF, LMT, DPMS, Larue, LWRC, etc).  I'm still shocked Noveske has not yet converted from AR10 pattern.  I agree that LAR8 is a solid value in 308 AR.

Own only 1, a 20" with a DD 12.0 lite rail, Troy BUIS front/rear and a GG&G heavy duty bipod and Nightforce 3.5x15x50 on a Larue LT 104 mount... couldn't be happier with it and it's by far my favorite rifle to shoot and I'm really looking forward to this years hunting season to field it.

Shoots 1" or better using Federal and Black Hills 168gr Match at 100 and 1.5 to 1 at 200.  I haven't even started trying handloads for it.

So I needed a new deer hunting rifle and this is what I ended up with, a RRA LAR-8...

Trijicon TA648TRD w/ Tenebrex Killflash
Ergo Deluxe Tactical grip with palm shelf
Specter 3-pt FN-FAL SOP Sling w/ ProMag quick detach sling swivel
CAA Bipod(BPO)
RRA LAR-8 Quad Rail Rifle Length

I bought mine used.  It appears to have had <30 rounds through it, and I fell in love with it the first trip to the range. It was shooting .55 avg 5 round groups at 100 yds and it is getting better each time out, down to .45.

The mag issue is a big one, but I found a few good ones, so that is solved.  Can't wait to shoot it at 300 yds.
