Terry, thank you for your review. Glad you like the lower (softer We wanted to strike a good balance of power vs. environment because it's easy for a handgun IR laser to bloom because of the short distances we're talking about. Too little, you have wash out with the introduction of IR illumination or other brighter environment factors. Also, we try to be conservative with our range estimation with our IR lasers and other NV devices we work with. We try to do reviews in worst case scenarios in regards to the environment. For NOD reviews, we usually test in extremely dark conditions and with IR lasers, we test a lot with IR illumination and moon light. Vic |
| Thanks for the extra info. From a customer stand point I didn't really know what to expect from a .1 IR laser I wondered if it might be to low power for anything more than short pistol ranges but after using the LDI handgun .1 laser now I know it has plently of power even when used with normal power IR illum or moon light/urban settings out past 100-200 yards . I am sure if you blasted a 300mW IR illum at the dot 25 yards away you could wash out the dot some but why would you do that anyway in the real world it would bloom your NV mono also. I kind of wish my Eolad and OTAL had maybe a .2 or. 3 class 1 laser the .7 is very strong at my normall shooting range of 25 to 75 yards I use a IR Illum to tone the laser donut/ bloom back some for more accuracy in my aiming point. Overall I think if someone was looking for a nice lower power laser that makes a good clean small dot on target up close to past 150+ yards the LDi hand gun laser would be worth looking at. I do like the click style target adjustments of the Eolad/OTAL units compared to the turn screw on the handgun model its alittle easier for fine tuning I found myself turning that screw a bit to far or not enough not a huge deal just not as nice as the micro click adjustments. Other than that the OTAL housing seems more solid/tougher than the handgun model but at $300 it's hard to complain I feel like its a bargin for a IR laser and we all know LDI makes good stuff. |

The Class 1 0.7mW IR laser from my DBAL-I2 is pretty strong with lots of donut bloom in my PVS-14 out to 200 yards or more without trying to tone it down with the IR illuminator.
I appreciate your review and am interested in this for precise shots at night out to 100 or so yards. How do you turn the unit on, did not see any instructions for that? |

I went ahead and ordered the TNVC LDI LAS/TAC 2 Class 1 IR Pistol Laser for installation on my carbine for more precise less blooming kill shots on my carbine, will let you know how it works.
Thanks a bunch for the review too, that was very helpful to me. It would be real nice if the IR Laser on the DBAL-I2 actually had two useable settings of 0.1mW Low and 0.7mW High....hope you are listening Vic.... |
