Looking to get the 16" LMT upper that comes fully assembled. Then again i would like to add a rail to it so i can add some optics and other goodies on it. So im thinking on just buying the upper with no bolt carrier, charging handle, or hand guard. What is a nice rail that will run flush with the upper and not have a gap in it??  Never built an AR before, it will be a first timer for me. So bare with me people because i may not know some of the correct terms or slang/lingo you all use on here. Thanks...

Also... whats a good lower and parts kit?   Looking into a Spikes Tactical and a RRA kit.. Any suggestions??

What is a good website for ordering these rails? Any one prefer any certain model?  Are they pretty easy to install, any certain tools you need?

Omega is good; I prefer the DD Lite Rail, lightest rail with a steel barel nut...

Try checking out Bravo for all sorts of upper configurations.

Can't go wrong with a DD rail. If you don't have the proper tools, you may want to go with the Omega because it's a 2-piece that installs with your existing delta ring in place. If you buy a complete upper (minus BCG, CH, HG), then you will have to remove the delta ring to put on the DD Lite.

There are other rails that will fit flush (e.g., Midwest Industries), but the DD is the top of the line.

In regard to LPK, I like Stag/CMT but only because that's all I have used. My reading of this site has revealed that Stag/CMT and RRA are good LPKs. Of course, the DD ones will be good to go, too. It seems that DPMS kits are either hit or miss. Or you can shell out more money than I believe is needed and get a Colt LPK.

i believe you have to remove the FSB as well.

As for lowers, don't spend too much. if you are going to spend $200+ just get a billet Mega one. but a forged stripped lower, get a Mega (~$100), AeroPrecision (~$79), Spikes (although i've read that the finishes look different based on the options you choose), there was a sale on Sabre Defense ($109), and someone got S&W's for $100.  they're all the same really. you should read the article about how there are 4 main manufacturers.

for rails, i'd vote for the Lite Rail as well. i have 2 12.0 LITE Rails and they really are light weight. they're lighter than some carbine rails i've held. they're also very "skinny" so if you do add anything rail covers, they'll be just right. but you do have to remove almost everything to install it since you have to use their barrel nut.  you're also going to need to get an upper receiver block, a barrel wrench, and DD Lite wrench (or a modified stock wrench) to get it on.

as for LPK's, i'd say go w/ the DD, it's relatively affordable compared to all the other kits and it comes w/ a black MOE polymer trigger guard.

i have the RRA and it's a good kit too. the RRA goes in very smoothly b/c of the coiled roll pins. if you do, i bought a Star Safety selector too. looks sweet. going to put them on all my rifles.

i think i have a Stag kit, that was sold to me as an RRA, b/c i've never seen an RRA kit that didn't have the green "INSPECTED" sticker and all the parts were not in separate zip  bags.  The Stag kit comes loose well at least some of the parts. i didn't like this kit b/c those roll pins were a b* tch to install.  but it works, so i guess i can't complain. i'll probably send off this trigger group to get a Bill Springfield trigger job.

whatever kit you do get, i'd recommend that if they don't come w/ split roll pins, get the RRA ones, it's 50cents and well worth it. you're going to need a punch set too, i bought mine from Sears, they're great. the ones i got from Harbor Freight are cr*p. the Harbor Freight ones do have a warranty though, so if one breaks, you just bring it back and they let you grab a new one.
