In regards to the 6.8, I have been told it is a carbine length gas system. The dealer I was on the phone with, actually FIRST thought it was a Mid-Length system (possibly because the 5.56 is a mid-length gas system), and then after he checked, he noticed it was indeed a CARBINE length gas system. He actually said, "they must have changed something". SO, was the 6.8 PREVIOUSLY a Mid-Length system???? (referring to the CQB models with the shorter rails, as I'm not sure what gas system the rifle length railed models have).??? OR, has the 6.8 ALWAYS been a carbine length gas system??? Does anyone here wish the 6.8 was a mid length system??? I'm basically stuck trying to decide on what length rail I want to go with, and I honestly don't know if the 6.8 MRP's ALL have the same length GAS SYSTEM, OR, if the longer (rifle length) railed MRP's have a longer gas system??? Thanks guys.. |

There are two 6.8 barrels: a 16" chrome lined and an 18" SS. Both have carbine length gas systems. They both, like the 5.56 MRP barrels, have low profile gas blocks that fit under the MRP forearm. The barrels will work with either the CQB (short) MRP or the Rifle (long) MRP. So I guess I'm not understanding your question. |

Well, My question is simply this: Did LMT at one time in the past, make a 6.8 upper with a MID LENGTH gas system??? The dealer I spoke to, was very surprised that the uppers he had, were ALL carbine length gas systems. He was giving me the impression, that LMT made 6.8 MID LENGTH gas system uppers at one time.. I am really kind of wondering WHY they do not make a 6.8 Mid Length system (presently)?? Is there some reason that they make a 5.56 Mid Length, but NOT a 6.8 mid length?? I would have THOUGHT that they would offer Mid Length uppers in BOTH calibers (and not ONLY 5.56).. Just wondering if anyone knows why? Is there a scientific reason for this, or what??? |

No, the 6.8 MRP barrels have always been carbine length. I recall reading some time back that the gas port pressure concerns that are present in CAR-length 5.56 gas systems do not exist to the same degree with 6.8. Unfortunately, that's just what I recall reading, and I cannot provide any more specific scientific explanation. Hopefully, someone who knows the whole story will chime in. |

And the question is, . . .? The pics don't look like carbine length gas tubes to me (I coud be wrong). Are they or aren't the and were they or weren't they? I'm not hijacking the thread but which is better? I have both and I don't notice any difference. They all work. What's the best length and why? I'd rather none of the hardware protruded beyond the rail, personally |

MRP'S IN 6.8 SPC HAVE ALWAYS USED CARBINE LENGTH GAS SYSTEMS. WORKS JUST FINE. WES GRANT MSTN.BIZ |

MRP BARREL GAS SYSTEMS: CARBINE LENGTH - 5.56MM 10.5" AND 14.5"; 6.8 SPC 16" AND 18". MID LENGTH - 5.56MM 16" AND 18". RIFLE LENGTH - NONE. I'VE NEVER FOOLED WITH THE .204 RUGER BARRELS. NOTE - WE HAVE SHORTENED 16" 6.8 SPC C/L MRP BARRELS TO 12", SO THERE IS ONE MORE "UNOFFICIAL" LENGTH BARREL OUT THERE IN 6.8 SPC. WES GRANT MSTN.BIZ MRP ADDICT |
And a 11.5":
