I have an LMT rear sight that I'd like to mount on my newest rifle build.  Has anyone here ever eliminated the large thumb nut and use a regular nut and some loctite?  The thumb nut gets in the way of  the charging handle when I try to "sweep" it with my left hand.   I hope this isn't coming off like I'm some tacticool wanna be  joker.  I was just noticing it and thought it might be a bit sleeker without that huge nut sticking out right in front of the charging handle latch. Thanks in advance.

Yes - I removed the LMT knob, shortened the threaded shank, and used a black-finished locknut from McMaster-Carr. Works great. Let me know if you need me to get the part number... I probably have it around here somewhere.

I have 6 or 7 of the Black finished 10-32 Nylock nuts left over. If any of you want one drop me an IM.

That would cost me a finger or two attempting a stunt like that.

Why? You've never had to cut a bolt off? This is a super simple mod that makes a huge difference on LMT fixed sights.
