I decided to splurge on a new stock and for some reason i'm drawn to LMT SOPMOD stock. My Bushmaster stock rattles in every position including closed and there is enough play between the stock and tube to annoy me. I noticed while watching video of myself at a recent shoot, that my stock was actually wiggling with every shot. I shot accurate rapid fire at multiple targets but couldn't help but notice the stock/tube play is excessive. Now it's driving me crazy. So, it's new stock time. How tight does the LMT SOPMOD stock fit on the milspec tube? I know my tube isn't milspec diameter, so i'll need the complete kit. My stock moves/wiggles approximately 3/16" side to side. How happy are you guys that own them? Thanks guys! HS1 |

My stock moving around didn't really bother me until I clicked on this thread... If I wanted to install one of these stocks on my Bushy,do I have to get the "kit" plus a differant buffer tube ? Or,can I just use the existing guts instead of getting the "kit" ? How many positions does the SOPMOD have ? |
To install on your bushmaster you'll need the kit with buffer tube. You can use your existing internals as long as you have a carbine spring and buffer. The standard tube included with the LMT SOPMOD is a 5 position, you could also use a 4 position Colt or a 6 position CMT tube. Jason |
Stick,is that an accessory butt pad? If so,where can I get one like it. I have one of these stocks on my carbine and it's very snug fitting w/o any rattles. Not sure if it's a clone,Crane,or LMT. How would I know the difference? Clint |
It's a removable butt pad. They come with the SOPMOD stock. I don't see why anyone would want to take it off though, it's quite comfortable and it 'sticks' to the shoulder better, IMO. Look at the lever on the bottom, at the front it should say LMT... if it's not it's an airsoft stock. LMT SPOMOD is the CRANE stock. |

I love mine. The cheek weld is 10x better than the old Bushie 4 position I had for a while. The tube that came with it is 6 position. There's no play or rattle with it. It does have storage tubes that I suppose you could stick batteries in, but I tried them with AAs for my EOTech, and it's too short for three of them in a tube, and rattles a lot with 2 in there. I suppose it would be decent for copies of NFA paperwork if you have such things though. The rubber pad is also rather nice. The old plastic endplate isn't too comfy if you're wearing just a T-shirt. |
My butt pad looks just like yours. From the angle of the photo,I thought Stickman's pad was thicker than ours. Crane made these stocks before LMT got the contract,,right? How were they marked? The original Cranes are bringing alot more money than the LMT unit's $200 so there must be some way to differentiate the two stocks from one another. |
Its the wider angle lens shot at an angle that draws the picture out. If I would have shot it from a distance using the soom, the picture would have looked compressed. |
I was just watching some south Fl unofficial AR15.com shoot videos on Google (#7). Which guy are you? I like the Bubba burgers cooking away on that little George Foreman. |
I bought mine from These Guys, best prices I could find. |
Wow,that's a great price,thanks. |
Damn. That's a smoking hot price. Wish I had found them before purchasing mine. |
Man, those guys' prices are pretty good. ETA: Shit! They've got LMT Uppers for less than 400. Is this for real? |
Thats the same price I paid for my 10.5" LMT upper. Its for real. LMT drop shipped it to my address from their factory. Took maybe a week from the time I ordered to the time it showed up. |
There is a big cost difference. The civilian tube is specifically designed for minimum cost. The diameter is selected in such a way, that only the thread needs to be machined, the rest of the tube needs very little to no machining. This is a huge cost reducing factor. The downside is that the end result is a tube that is thicker than the mil-spec tube and mil-spec stocks will not fit. What's worse, the peak-to-peak diameter of the thread will fall just a little short of the specified 3/16"-16 UN3-B. This will greatly affect the strength of the joint between the tube and the lower receiver. The mil-spec tube is a forging, that is shaped in such a way, that the thread area has enough material to machine a full diameter thread and the tube area has a smaller diameter that allows more material in the plastic part of the stock. The tube area will also need a little machining. The tooling and machining is expensive, but there is a clear gain in performance. The full thread increases the strength in the joint between the lower receiver. Forged aluminium is generally 5-15% stronger than extruded aluminium, which further increases strength. The smaller tube diameter allows more material in the plastic part of the stock, again making the end product stronger. |
Has to be Airsoft or 2004 prices... That's significantly below dealer cost.... |
+1 |
Too high to be Airsoft and I serioulsy doubt LMT would allow them to sell knock-offs as LMTs-- particularly when they sell other LMT products. |
