Hey all, some quick questions about the LMT uppers. I currently have a Bushmaster V-match rifle with 16" bbl. I was wondering if I can buy a stripped LMT upper and use it with my rifle... do I need to buy a new barrel extension for the deeper "M4" style cuts? Is the idea behind these to increase feeding reliability? Finally, where can I get the upper, the forward assist and ejection port cover installed would be nice, but I don't want to pay for a new barrel, handguard, etc. Thanks in advance for any help.
you cant have a new barrel ext. put on a chrome lined barrel. They cant reheadspace it if it has a chrome chamber. You would be better off not doing it or selling your Bushy and buying a lmt upper. I dont know if a v-match barrel is chrome or not. If not then it will around $60 or $70 to have a smith do it for you. I already checked into it. Unless you are having trouble with you bushy, I wouldnt worry with it.
I have a couple LMT uppers without barrels I can sell you, but because they have the M4 ramps and your V-Match barrel extension does not, you would more than likely run into a constant jamming problem while feeding. If it were the other way around (M4 extension in a standard upper) it would work.
OK, I guess I'll give up on that idea. I was thinking about getting a new upper so that there would be a tighter fit between the upper and lower receivers, the rattle drives me nuts and the accu-wedge doesn't help (I have a new condition BM lower). I heard that the LMT uppers might be a more solid fit. I had an older BM upper that fit great, maybe I should just order a few stripped uppers from BM and pick the one that fits best and sell the others? I know what you're thinking, why not just send it the receiver and have it fit by them? I can't do that as I live in California and I can't take the risk of sending off my lower receiver. If it gets lost by UPS/FedEX, I'm out of luck and the DOJ won't let me get another one. Anyway, thanks for your help, it's appreciated.
