So, I've got this LMT...

the front sight is canted so there's no use in keeping it on there. It's been shot very little and I'd like to use it for three gun stuff someday. I really think it's about time to put a rail on it. I can't decide between the two lengths. Some pics would help. I kind of want to be able to get my support out on the rail with an AFG or have the option of sticking a bipod on the end when I'm at the range. I also prefer the look of less barrel exiting the rail.

I'm thinking of someday having the barrel cut down to 14.5" with a permanently attached muzzle device. I've priced the total services I'd need from ADCO and it's about $240 not including shipping. That price includes barrel cutting, re-threading; shaving down the front sight and re-pinning; assembly of the new FF rail (most likely an LT); permanently attaching  a suppressor muzzle device.

But for now, I need to pick a rail. If you gents would kindly supply me with pictures of your 16" or 14.5" carbines with 11" & 12" rails, I would be most appreciative. In return, I promise to provide updates and pics of the outcome.

It happens to be for sale, but this is what you're looking for.  Fantastic setup.

scoutfsu99,

what all is that you got going on there?

I did what you're thinking about doing.  Took off the FSP of a 14.5 and replaced it with a low pro gas block.  Put on a 12" free float rail.  Should I use another picture?

Sorry, I should have been more specific. Which muzzle device is that you're using. It's hard for me to tell because I'm actually very new to the world of suppressor-adapter muzzle devices. Is that what you have on the barrel?

Its a SureFire brake.  The 556k.  I love the things.  There are many good options out there for you.  DD makes great rails, but there are plenty of others.  The same with the brakes.  SF, PWS, BattleComp, etc.

$240 will get you another barrel.  Easy.

then youll have 2.

I'd still have to factor in the cost of permanently attaching a muzzle device, assembly of a free float rail, and replacing or modifying a front sight gas block. The more I think about it, modifying the current barrel makes sense. Who wants a 16" carbine anyway?

All you need to do for this is chop the D ring and handguard cap, then cut down the FSB.  Six screws lock it into place, and you are done in no time at all.

I'm kind of digging the AAC 18T. The M-1000 looks to be an affordable suppressor which would make for an economically viable package. With an NFA item in the wings, I would have incur another cost with an NFA trust but that is someways down the road. While we're on the subject, does anyone have any experience with AAC equipment?

I've got an AAC m4-2000 can....using it on 3 different 5.56s.  It's a good piece of equipment, and being able to buy extra mounts ($$ tho) kicks ass.
It is by no means movie 'silencer' quiet, but it does it's job as intended.  Heck, I've even shot my sig mosquito though it.......

ETA:  don't forget to keep an eye on the EE for mounts/hiders if you go that route....I picked up a blackout hider for a ridiculous deal from a fellow member.

Man, oh, man. I guess ACC is it. I just snagged a couple of 18Ts off the EE. They've been soda blasted. At $110 for the pair, I think I made a good investment. I haven't yet decided whether I want to sacrifice one for a permanent weld and save the other for a day when I finally do SBR the LMT, or leave the barre; at 16" and save myself a few bucks. I'm beginning to think the latter option is the way to go.

I'm very excited! I think I may just end up going with a LaRue 12" rail on this one.

If you're gonna use the AAC FH's, I would just leave the barrel at 16".  The 1.5" isn't really a big improvement, and if your long term plan is to SBR it, you'll want to go even shorter.  That's kinda why you may want to get a shorter rail too, because a 12" Larue isn't gonna work with a 10.5" barrel.  12.5" barrel might be cool though.

I did  look at DD. They are pretty awesome. In fact, I would say that they are probably the only other rail maker I would consider. Price leaves a little something to be desired. I don't really know that LT gives up much in the rail department to DD. I have a LaRue rail and very much like the design and quality. I have been lurking in the EE lately, though. I saw a fellow selling a 12" DD Lite rail for $300 which is what I'd pay for a new LaRue 12", and I'm not saying I wouldn't have been tempted to grab it. I just don't have the cash for it right this second or else I'd have strongly considered it.

The MSRP is high on DD rails, but I forget which one but many of the site sponsors have 10-20% off sales every friday which would work on the DD rails.
