New to the board, so take it easy on me please.

I am trying to decide between a colt and LMT.  I started this thinking I would get a RRA.  For not too much more money I can get a LMT or Colt.  My fear is I will not have the option in the future to purchase something else so I want to get it right this time.

The rifle will be for SHTF and practice.  I want to keep it simple.  I don't think I need or want optics.  If the range needs to be streched out that far I will pull out the .300 win mag.  The eotech sights look great but I doubt I will be clearing any houses during SHTF.  I also don't want to rely on batteries if they were to become unavailable.

So

Colt 6920 for $1199

or

LMT 16 Standard Service for $1173 with LEO discount.

The LMT has a fixed sight with a rail.  More versitile and I have the option of adding to it later not using the carry handle.

I will be buying two and 10 or so magpul mags.

for that price I'd drink the cool aid and get the Colt

Colt 6920. It is worth it.

The LMT is a fine rifle as well, but I still vote Colt.

Why not get 1 of each? I mean, if you are going to get two...  I have an MRP made by LMT and I like it alot. Does the job.

Get both.

Either one you get will be good.  I'd get the Colt because the price difference is only a few bucks.  But if the LMT has a fixed BUIS that would save you a few bucks if you ever went to a red dot.  This is what's know as a win win situation, no matter what you pick you can not go wrong.

What about customer service?  I have not much good about Colt?

There's nothing wrong to speak of with Colt's customer service.

does the LMT have the SOPMOD stock?  If it does I would get the LMT.  The SOPMOD along with the rear sight and standard FCG would be worth it for me.

If the LMT does not have the SOPMOD get the Colt!

Or, as some suggested, one of each!!!

OK....

When I think of a "cowboy gun" I think of a COLT SAA.

When I think of a "M1911" I think of a COLT 45.

When I think of an "M16" I think of a COLT AR-15.

Then, remember the "Clinton Reign of Terror" (AWB)?

Well, the COLTs sold for a significant premium over the XYZ clone.

HTH.

I have two LMT's and love them.  If you order the upper ,lower, and BCG as seperate items instead of a completed rifle you can get it for about 950.
all you have to do is put the two pins in and it's finished/. There is some kind of tax or fee for completed rifles.

I got mine from GRTactical. http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?search=action&category=LMTO

Well, I would say lmt but latly I have been partial to colt. If i would of had the money, there was a 6920 for a grand back home in MI, but school funds ruined that. Get both For my next 16", im going with a 6920, for my 10.5 I'm going lmt.

but if the prices are similar, go colt.

Thanks all.  I am starting to lean towards the Colt.  I'm sure more stupid questions will follow.

That price is even a little high for the LMT at LEO prices.  I got a complete LMT w/ sopmod and rear sight for cheaper than that.  IM me for details.

Good to know... hopefully everything was at it should be and you are happy with your purchase. Everything is smooth so far, sent payment and had my dealer fax FFL info today. Can't wait till Thursday when he gets them in!

Either one would be just fine. They are both high quality.

I only owned a Colt 6920 and it's solid. But I have seen very few complaints of LMT on here. You would do fine with either and those are great prices.

There's always one. Why does it have to be a "vs." thing every time.

I would go with the LMT if you were me just because I hate 16" M4 profile barrels. I bought a 6721 just for that reason over a 6920.

Id buy LMT lower with SOPMOD and single stage trigger, then get a LMT 14.5" upper from somewhere like Denny's where they can perm attach the muzzle device before shipping it out to you.

Im a big LMT and Colt fan. LMT has been very reliable for me and they are a good value for the quality you get. Just a shade under Colt but its more in the little things that dont really affect function. They still properly test their products and use quality materials to begin with. CS is good with both companies.

LMT since it has a lifetime warranty vs Colt's one year warranty.
