Only a couple of days away from owning my first LMT carbine. I have seen and read about the LMT with the monolithic rail system. Will it pay for me now to go ahead and get the one with the monolithic system or put a forearm on it later from somewhere like DD, YHM, Larue, etc...?

I'd skip the monolithic rail.

I like the standard LMT Defender. Mine has the 14.5" upper with extended FH and a set of KAC M4 RAS rails

I am a big fan of the MRP.

It does cost more than an upper with a Free Float rail, but it also gives you the capability to swap out barrels / calibers as your needs dictate.

That feature is worth it to me. In terms of POI shift when swapping barrels, in my experience it has been negligible, and I am very pleased with the performance of my MRP.

I have a couple of the MRPs and love them.  I like having the ability to change barrel lengths, calibers and even from DI to piston and back easily.  It is up to you want you want.  Either way you will still get a great product.

Personally if you have the extra cash now I'd go with the built in rail. Mind you buying a standard defender and adding a rail and maybe a low profile gas block later might be cheaper.

I think the exact opposite.  My CQB MRP is the nicest AR I own.  I like better than my Noveske N4 light.

I have an LMT set up exactly like yours Jcrowl, but I must say I like my CQB MRP better.

same here, I own 4 LMT MRPs

thanks for your replies, I still can't decide, I'm thinking about going long on the forearm, so I'm leaning towards getting the standard carbine.

The MRP comes in 2 different rail sizes, CQB MRP (the short one)  and MRP (the long one)

I went with the CQB MRP. The CQB length works for me in both 18" and 10.5" barrel configurations and anything in between. The versatility of barrel changes and abillity to go to a piston system is a bonus!
Just my thoughts....(yes, the 10.5" has a legal stamped lower)

I was so impressed with the MRP that I bought 4. Also pre-orderd the 308 MRP

The MRP makes for a very solid gun. Try to handle one, if you have not already. They are great guns!

THE MRP IS THE MOST RIGID CHASSIS FOR AN AR' BARREL OUT THERE. THAT'S WHY THEY TURN IN GOOD ACCURACY RESULTS.

THE MRP IS ALSO THE WAY TO GO FOR A HEADS UP L.E. DEPARTMENT. AFTER A CERTAIN NUMBER OF ROUNDS, SIMPLY SWAP BARRELS AND BOLTS AS A MATTER OF PROCEDURE.

GOOD SHOOTING,

WES

I personally think the LMT MRP is one of the nicest factory ARs on the market

but hey what do i know?

I have both (MRP and a standard LMT carbine).  I really like both.  But, I have to say, the MRP is an amazing platform.  It just feels solid in your hands.

I own a couple of KAC E3's, a couple of LWRC's, a few Noveske's, and a LMT MRP and I must say that I am very impressed with the MRP's features and performance overall..it would be a great choice IMO.
