Just received a LPK kit and all the components are covered in oil including the buffer tube that was packaged separately (unwrapped).

Is this normal for something that is supposed to be factory new?

This is my first build so maybe I'm just being neurotic.

Normal.

Done to protect everything for storage and whatnot IIRC.

My PSA lpk came covered in that shit.

Thanks. I figured it was probably a newb question.

Would you rather it be covered in rust?

Most any parts like that are going to come with some kind of preservative oil on them to prevent rust/corrosion in storage, distribution etc.

Note that said preservative is not a good lubricant and should be removed before installation and use.  Replace as appropriate with a suitable lubricant/protectant product.

Haha, +1

Oil is good for metal. People act like it's a toxic substance.

If your parts are too oily, send them to me. I'll even pay shipping costs.

Normal, wipe them down with some CLP and a rag before you install the parts.
