Anyone have one?   I'd like a range report and any notes on reliability with the rifle and of course it's accuracy.   I plan to eventually rebarrel and make it into a long range gun ( want the a3 upper ) but would like to be able to do some decent accuracy work with it out of the box.

I'm getting .75" groups of 5 @ 100 yards when I do my part (scoped).  This is with handloaded 180 grain JSP's - my testing thus far is indicating less velocity loss with heavier loads in the short barrel.  With 147 grain bullets I was about 250 to 300 FPS slower than published loads using 24 inch barrels, as the bullet weight increased the difference was reduced.  With 180 grain bullets the differential is down to about 100 - 150 below published loads.

I have used some mil surp, some federal match, and mostly an array of handloads - perhaps a grand total of 500 - 600 rounds with zero malfunctions so far.  Overall I am thrilled with this rifle, but if I could change anything it would be barrel length - it would be PERFECT with a 20" barrel

DPMS are you listening 20" barrel with iron sights - standard AR barrel length - it would sell!!!

I also have been getting sub-moa accuracy results.  The AP4 is a great rifle.  Go for it.

She sounds like a keeper!

(My wife bought my AP4 for my 40th birthday [earlier this year].  I love it.)

What are you guys using for optics on the AP4?   I'm considering ordering a supersniper 10x but not sure if the FSB will put too much of a shadow in front.

im saving for an ior 2-12x32.  you should be fine at 10x, not sure at what exact power the fsb disappears.  i can see it at 4x, not at 8x.

What we really need is an animation of one of these > smilies getting an erection, it would be perfect for this thread!
Nice looking boom stick.

I'm an EOTech guy, but I put the new Aimpoint ML3 I picked up in the recent Group Buy on my AP4 carbine to see how I like it.

When I get a long-barreled/long-range version (very high on my short "to buy" list), I'll put traditional glass on it (exactly what, I don't know yet).

I don't have an appropriate animation, but I can show you what one rather large good ol' boy looks like on his first outing with one of these...

I think you can special order jsut about any rifle with it's own barrel length, and AP4 upper reciever ($75).

I was planning on building a 24 inch long(er) range one with that upper.

It is one of their many customizing options...

Never thought to order one - just picked up one up at one of the local shops.  Once I started looking at data for the 308 in various barrel lengths I discovered that right around 18" velocity nosedives.  Still, this rifle is the best value I have found.

How's it been for reliability?

Not a hiccup, but I only have a few hundred rounds through it so far.  I also haven't zeroed it yet with the Aimpoint, but I was very pleased out to 100 yards with the irons.

Mine has been incredibly reliable.  I have fed a few thousand through her so far and only problem experience was a batch of really hot surplus junk(mainly what I feed her, surplus ammo) and it actually broke the lip off the extractor.  DPMS was shocked as they had never experienced a broken extractor in the LR series.  They sent me a new one and I had it within a week.  Prior to that it would fire but not extract as the extractor couldn't hold onto anything.  Roughly 1000 rounds since that and not a problem at all.  I have fed her whatever surplus I could find and some handloads as well.  With the worst ammo I have given her she will regularly shoot a minute-of-squirrel, with the handloads I can get her just shy of 3/4 MOA.  Mines a LR308 AP4.  I love it!

I really like the look and feel of the rifle, but I have had some issues that have made me cautious about touting it. I had to send it back and did some research about others with similar issues. One common theme in all DPMS related topics has been that they have very good customer service; my situation was also handled well. My rifle returns tomorrow and I will post a range report in a couple weeks in that thread.

Good luck,
Marty

LR-308AP4 FTF, bad accuracy

Here is an easy link, sorry I don't post that often and forgot I had to use the scripted feature.

That's the first bad problem I've heard of outside of ammo-related problems.  Thanks for sharing it with us here.
