| So i've got a DPMS AP4 .308, and i've got a G&P Scorpion R500 flashlight on it. I know it's made by an airsoft company, but i've seen their flashlights work fine with other AR15 platforms. anyway, each time i go shoot the light stops working, the bulb and the connections are fine, but it just wont turn on anymore until i plug it back into the charger. Funny thing is that it doesn't matter how long i recharge it for; last time i did this i plugged it in for less than 5 seconds and the light came back on like it never had any issues at all. Only thing i really notice is that the plugin for the battery (since it's an internal rechargeable battery) gets rotated around inside the housing after i'm done shooting. I'm thinking this is purely a battery issue, perhaps the battery itself needs to be in the exact position at all times? has anyone heard of this issue with any other lights before? the LR-308 has a nice vibration to it, and it seems like only the best stuff can handle being mounted to it. any input? |

That is an incandescant light. I am suprised you have not blown bulbs out on a .308 with the batteries slamming back and forth in the tube upon recoil. For a .308 you are going to have best luck with an LED or an incan that has some good shock isolation, I would still prefer the LED though. |

I don't suppose there is anything i can do at home that could provide better shock isolation, or is there? I am sure there is a way to keep the batteries more static under recoil, but why mess with patches? I would recommend a better unit. |

There are other lights in the @ $100 arena that should do just fine for what you are wanting. Give me a minute and I will find you a couple. It's just that incandescants + recoil = fail. I also bet you are not the happiest with your run-time. Check out the Dereelight DBS DBS It has a "hot spot" roughly twice as "hot" as the incan you are using. It will throw a LOT harder. Review IN this thread you can find beam-shots of it in-use^ I would kinda recommend trying to get the 1-stage version so that you don't have to worry about it switching modes under recoil if the battery loses contact. The smooth, or "SMO" reflector will give the most throw, and the OP (orange peal) the most even beam, Heck, buy both, they are interchangeable. Figure out what you like. The DBS looks to be of similar size to what you have now, and should handily throw farther, and is better made, while still not breaking the bank. If you like what you have now but want something that throws further and is better made, I would look into this. You can relegate your current light to hand-held. |
