Guys I have little AR experience, just finishing up my building on an Oly (ugh old cast lower but I had it already) A2 with a Doublestar HBAR with chrome barrel (yes I know accuracy but this is a low budget plinker build. I have two new LRB lowers on order through the marland shooters groupbuy for my next two AR builds (something short and something flatop with a bull barrel).

In the mean time my local dealer has a .308 DPMS stripped lower for $399 that I am thinking of putting on layaway (at least until the 30 days from my last AK purchase are up) for an AR build as I have been craving something semi in .308.

How are the LR-308's for reliablility, accuracy? How do they do with the cheaper C products mags? I imagine it will take me a couple months to clear DPMS's backlog and get an upper though I will probably order one as soon as I secure a lower, Is $399 to much for the lower (Maryland prices)?

My LR run perfect. Shoots damn good and looks mean. Trigger is getting better but is pretty bad. 200 rounds so far with no issues.

Are the lower reciever parts standard AR or custom to the LR? If they are standard AR you should be able to swap in a good 3 lb trigger?

I will be building the lower and using a factory assembled and headspaced upper.

Right?

This is what I want to know too.  Armalite has a list of compatible AR parts but as far as I can see DPMS doesn't and that's the build I decided to go with.

I have a DPMS LR308. I am doing the same thing. I got the stripped lower. The trigger parts are the same. Many of the small parts springs etc. Any of the Ar stocks will work. I have a Vltor Emod on mine. Buffers and Buffer springs are a little different. I would use the Slash buffer. Uppers are larger but the std. Ar15 rear BUIS will work. I got a S/S Titian 16in barrel from Fulton armory and the std. DPMS FF rail (threads on the rail are different than std. Ar's Also larger). I would run down asap and pick up that lower. They are back ordered about a Year at DPMS. Bolt groups are hard to come bye also. Check out Midway. Good luck and post some pics as you go along. P.S. the C products mags work quite well. But try and pic up some of the DPMS also. I have only put about 300rds though mine.

Thanks guys, dealer has about 5 of them.  He is a local guy so maybe I will give him a call Friday and have him hold it until I get back into town Monday. Afterall I just bought an NHM91 off of him. I dont mind putting a hefty deposit.  I dont mind it being a long term project as long as the parts keep coming.

What are you guys using for uppers DPMS or is there another alternative.

I have a DPMS LR- 308. And after 300 rnds i have not yet to have any trouble with it at all. I have only used the DPMS factory mags. As " I"M STILL WAITING  " On the C-Products to arrive from a month ago's oreder.

Mine eats everything its feed. The junk ammo shows out past 100 yds. The better stuff shoots great groups. As i'm going to start to reload some loads for it verry soon. Now that i have some goods fired case's from this rifle. Then we will see what she will do.

I would not think twice about a DPMS 308. I have not heard anything bad that was not B.S. bashing of DPMS.

It's been a while since I put together one of 308 lowers, but I did want to point out that not all the lower parts are the same.  The front pivot pin is longer, the bolt catch uses a screw rather than the roll pin, the recommended bolt catch itself is slightly different (but you can probably make do with the standard one), the buffer and spring are different.  There may be a few others that I'm not thinking of.

I usually buy a basic AR15 kit from ADCO without trigger group and grip, and then purchase the extras separately as I use a nonstandard buffer (MGI), spring (Tubb CS), trigger (Giessele), Safety (ambi), mag release (norgon ambi), and grip (Ergo Tactical Deluxe).  (I'm a lefty, obviously).  If you go with a more standard setup ADCO has good deals on the WOA tuned RRA trigger also.  The trigger group, safety and grip are the same as AR15.
