Hey Gents,
Considering purchasing either a 18 or 20in REPR for a Precision Rifle or a KAC ECR, just like the idea of the side charging handle since ill be running suppressed the majority of the time, however i was wondering from users if this is a reliable setup, as the charging handle and bolt carrier seem to be proprietary and would be a PITA to acquire spares. If anyone has heard of any of these parts shearing/breaking/becoming unserviceable, i will just pony up the extra dough for the SR25. Thanks Everyone! |
| I have a 16" REPR that has maybe 450 rounds through it with zero issues. Like the side charging handle so much I wish my 5.56 AR's all had it. I'm picking up a 20" REPR in a week or so and we'll see how it handles. They no longer offer the 18" model but you can find them. I really liked the balance of the 18", wish I would have picked up one. |

I've had an 18" REPR since around 2011. I have shot it a lot. I didn't count my rounds on this rifle, maybe I should have. It has the 4 position gas block and I almost always shoot it with a Surefire suppressor. While there are "better" precision rifles, I think the REPR outshines most when suppressed. The side charger and piston keep almost all the gas out of your face. When shooting prone (especially as a right handed shooter) the side charger allows you to easily chamber a round or clear a malfunction. I haven't had any issues. I did add a JP Heavy captured spring. In my option it softened up the felt recoil a bit. That was a minor probably unnecessary modification but I like it.
The accuracy is very good as you would expect from something like a LaRue LMT or Knights. It maybe a little less on paper at 100 yards but it keeps steel swinging easily out to 800m (furthest I've gone so far with it). I typically shoot 147gr when messing around and 168gr when shooting past 400m. One thing the REPR has over a lot of 308 AR's is with the REPR you can sling it cross a stream, climb a fence, and then climb into your tree stand without having the weapon loaded. Then once you're ready you can chamber a round using the side charger as a forward assist. Practically speaking, this eliminates the lab clank when clambering a round in the middle of the woods. If you have a chance to buy an 18 inch REPR I would highly recommend it especially because they don't make the 18 inch anymore. YMMV When I first got it...
