Anyone have any experience with lapping an AR-15 upper reciever.  This is done to true up the reciever face where it interfaces with the barrel insert.  I read in precision shooting magazine that this can improve accuracy.  Thinking about getting a tool and some compound but wanted to ask around about it first.  Does it help?  Any tips?

Thanks,

You can do it or not do it…
All it will do is make your point of impact more parallel with the horizontal centerline of the upper, but unless your upper is REALLY out of whack you won’t be making any noticeable difference.
But, getting the tool is not a bad idea, its cheap enough and you could simply use it to check the squareness of the face of the receiver by inserting it and looking to see if the face is touching all the way around or if there is a gap on one side an touching on the other (then you can lap it back square).
But I wouldn’t lap it unless it needed it because you will be removing the type-3 hard anodizing…

Hope this makes sense…
