I want to get an upper for my AR that is larger than 223.  The purpose of this is to be able to use the AR platform for hunting.  In VA it has to be .243 diameter or larger to hunt whitetails.  Now keep in mind they are not much bigger than 150 lbs.  What are my options?  I want to keep it an easily accesable shooter - IOW - ammo that won't cost me an arm and a leg to shoot often and I can find almost anywhere.
Thanks in advance.

You have a TON of options.

The main thing you need to consider is how far of a shot are you gonna be taking?

If short, then you can include big and heavy rounds like the .458, .50 Beowulf and the .499 LW.

If long (over 150yds), then you should consider getting a smaller, flatter shooting round.  6x45, or 7mm TCU for example.

I'm hoping somebody will post the list of known AR calibers.

For readily available ammo, Olympic Arms makes a .243wssm upper

What kind of mags does it use?

My longest shot so far has been 200 yards but most of them have been under a 100.

I looked at the Oly website and it didn't have much info on it.  $750 for the upper alone.
