I'm checking out laser/lights for my BCM middy....I'm definitely liking the Streamlight TLR-2 (father has one on his Stag) but don't want to put my eggs in one basket before digging around.

The LaserMax unit looks like a solid piece and has some nice features including a rail underneath for a light if you wanted that. Also has the ambi on-off switch.

Not sure if i like the battery life (only 3.5 hrs???) advertised.

Does anyone have any info or firsthand knowledge of this item?

Thanks

I have a couple of them. I bought the green flavor and do like them. The price could be prohibitive but they are compact and light. I haven't beat them too badly but they seem durable as well. If you've got the $$$ then I'd say jump on it.

I've got one (green) with the tape switch.  Extremely light, unobtrusive and easy to mount on limited rail space.

The only thing I don't like about it is the cheezy plastic (OK, super-duper space-age plastic) housing.  I'm not crazy about the fact that you can't turn off the strobe function, and when you add the tape switch, there's no way to just turn it "ON".

When I added the tape switch, the switch and battery cover just kinda screwed back into the plastic like a little-bitty sheet metal screw (no inserts).  I don't know how many times you could do that without the screws wallowing out the holes.

For that much money, I'd think an aluminum housing would be better.

How is the battery life?

Is there a strobe function on the laser or is it a on-off only type deal?

I own a (Red) version of this laser sight.  I highly recommend them.  FYI: You can turn off the strobe feature.  It's not hard to do...just read the instructions.

....just don't buy the green one (Uni-G).  You CANNOT turn off the strobe function.  It's "off", "strobe" or "momentary strobe" with the optional tape switch.  I don't particularly care for the strobe feature, and probably wouldn't have bought mine if I had known.

i have had 6 of them at one time or another down to 4 at the moment 2 red 2 green.never any real problems but i can say the red are a much better value as i usually pay aroung 125 for them.also the green lasers eat batterys much faster and they are temp sensitive.every one i have used has pretty much puked out at 35 degrees where the red are still going strong at 15.i have switched to red only on my night hunting rifle as the green has stopped working mid hunt too many times as the temp falls

You can turn off the strobe function. I have one and it's very easy, just read your owners manual.

Well, I guess I have the only double-secret Unimax Uni-Green (LMS-UNI-G) on the planet that HAS NO SWITCH to change from pulse to steady.  Yes I can (and did) read the instructions, and there was no mention of the switch under the battery cover that changes the RED one from steady to pulse.  This isn't my first Lasermax laser, and have adjusted my others....that's why I was surprised when the green one offers no option.

Here's the on-line manuals for both, with the red one clearly stating how to change it, and the green one with no mention at all (just in case somebody thinks I can't read).

RED - http://www.lasermax.com/installation_guides/pdfs/LMS-UNI_Installation_Rev_D_(web).pdf

GREEN - http://www.lasermax.com/installation_guides/pdfs/LMS-UNI-G_Installation_Rev_C_(web).pdf

When I CALLED THE MANUFACTURER (1-800-527-3703), their tech guy stated that NO, you CAN NOT disable the strobe in the LMS-UNI-G, as the strobe dramatically increases the life of the diode and extends battery life (something about the way green lasers are made).

All I know is what I have, what the instructions say (or don't say), and what the factory told me.  Maybe there was an early run of them that had this feature and were failing, but the one I bought a couple months ago STROBES and ONLY strobes.

I guess the green is pulse only. Or maybe mine is an older unit.

Greens ar pulse only. Red can be pulse or steady depending if you frive the screw in or out under the battery cap. We have never made a steady beam green YET
